• The Douglas Coleman Show w_ Stu Shostak part 1
    May 16 2022
Stu's career in television and broadcasting dates back to the early 1970s when he began as an audience coordinator for game shows and sitcoms. In 1982, he received his performing break when he was given an opportunity to do the audience warm-up at the popular situation comedy, "Diff'rent Strokes". He did so well that he was assigned regular warm-up duties the following season on the Ricky Schroder sitcom, "Silver Spoons", a position he held for two years.

Stu has also done warm-ups for "The Jeffersons", "Mama's Family",
"Amen", and many others. Behind the scenes, he's been the owner/operator of Shokus Video, a company dedicated to the preservation of 1950s TV shows on DVD and video tape, since 1979. He was also the producer and director of "The Jack La Lanne Show Commemorative Special" home video, as well as Lucille Ball's personal film archivist for the last ten years of her life.

He produced, wrote, and directed a bonus featurette for Shout! Factory's "Leave it to Beaver - The Complete Series" DVD box set that starred the series' Ken Osmond and Frank Bank (Eddie and Lumpy), along with supplying a generous amount of vintage archival footage and several "Stu's Show" interviews for the release. He most recently hosted an on-camera bonus video and co-produced Shout! Factory's "Dennis the Menace Season One" DVD set. He also worked as a consultant on all three subsequent seasons of the series.
"Stu's Show" continues to attract new audiences each week with its impressive lineup of celebrities in the entertainment industry, both in front of and behind the cameras.

  • The Douglas Coleman Show w_ Shane Wilson
    May 9 2022
Shane Wilson is a storyteller. No matter the medium, the emphasis of his work is on the magical act of the story, and how the stories we tell immortalize us and give voice to the abstractions of human experience. His first two contemporary fantasy novels as well as a stage play, set in his World of Muses universe, are currently available.

Born in Alabama and raised in Georgia, Shane is a child of the southeastern United States where he feels simultaneously at- home and out-of-place. He graduated from Valdosta State University in South Georgia with a Masters in English. He taught college English in Georgia for four years before moving to North Carolina in 2013.

Shane plays guitar and writes songs with his two-man-band, Sequoia Rising. He writes songs as he writes stories--with an emphasis on the magic of human experience. He tends to chase the day with a whiskey (Wild Turkey 101) and a re-run of The Office.

Alan --a heart-broken and stubborn computer programmer--took much in his life for granted, including the vast supply of water in his town. But when the rains stop falling and the rivers dry up, he begins to realize how temporary it all can be. His life begins to unravel as, across town, a sinkhole threatens to swallow every bit of the place he has come to call home.
Shane's novels are A Year Since the Rain (Snow Leopard Publishing, 2016) and The Smoke in His Eyes (GenZ Publishing, 2018). Shane's short story, "The Boy Who Kissed the Rain" was the 2017 Rilla Askew Short Fiction Prize winner and was nominated for a 2018 Pushcart Prize. An adaptation of that story for the stage was selected for the Independence Theater Reading Series in Fayetteville, NC.

  • The Douglas Coleman Show w_ Bob Weatherwax
    May 6 2022
    Bob Weatherwax;
Four Feet to Fame: A Hollywood Dog Trainer's Journey
My name is Bob Weatherwax. My father was Rudd B. Weatherwax, best known as the original owner and trainer of Lassie. My father and I were the trainers of some of Hollywood's most famous dogs.

From my Dad's work with Asta in the original Thin Man series, up until my work with Einstein (the dog in Back to the Future), we have created a long and storied legacy of trained dogs in the motion picture industry. Of course, the most memorable animal in our work was none other than Lassie, the cultural icon of both movies and television.

My family's journey began with my grandfather, Walter S. Weatherwax, who was a deputy United States Marshal in the New Mexico Territory. He was also an inventor, and even a trick-rider in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show.

Economic hard times brought Walter to Hollywood, when the film industry was in its infancy. At that time, some of Hollywood's silent legends were making their mark on American culture. Among the stars was a German shepherd named Rin Tin Tin. It was in that unique place and time, that Walter and his sons, (Rudd, Frank, and Jack), made their own mark on American movie history.

My father's brother, Jack, was the trainer of Toto in the 1939 classic, Wizard of Oz. Dad's brother, Frank, trained Spike, the dog in Disney's Old Yeller. Rudd, my Dad, trained Asta, Daisy, and Lassie, the collie who would rise to super stardom. I worked with Dad from the early 1960's until his death in 1985. I carried on the Lassie legacy until 2002. Then, against my wishes, the Weatherwax family voted to sell the Lassie trademark.

Due to my father's genius, we transformed the training of dogs from simple props on a movie set into actors who seemed to behave with human-like emotions. Dad was a transitional figure in Hollywood animal training, and my experiences with him from childhood to adulthood have transformed my life and made me who I am today.

I hope that my father's life-long labor of love, of which I am proud to have shared by his side, will be uplifting in a world that - more than ever - needs some inspiration from the past.

In just two years; he has been fortunate enough to perform at a wide range of events including notable stages such as TED, Mind Body Spirit London, The National Science Museum, Glastonbury and Madison Square Garden to name a few.

This journey led him to comedy and subsequently music, which for the last two years he has performed extensively in the United Kingdom and recently internationally on my 'Life is a Joke' tour which spanned 12 countries including the United States, China and Australia. He has been fortunate and successful and has performed at venues including The Comedy Store, The Boiler-room, Glastonbury and Latitude Festival.
