• Chris L'Amarca - L'Amarcable Poise
    May 23 2023

As a young kid, Chris L'Amarca suffered from a body pain that she thought all kids experienced. It was only later in life that she realized that her body pain is a rare one. This consistent pain has caused this queer teacher to leave the classroom and focus her entire life on her health.

We are lucky to have this conversation because earlier this year Chris was saying ‘goodbye’ to loved ones. Somehow, she is with us today and sharing her story on Tales of the 2SLGBTQ+.

This episode is part storytelling but is also full of instruction.  There must be the latter when there is a bunch of rare diseases involved.  These diseases include Addison’s Disease, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, Raynaud’s, and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome.

And yes . . . you will likely spend time after WebMDing what you have learned.

Chris shares her story with calm and remarkable poise.  Or should I say instead, L’Amarcable Poise. All of this plus discussion around being a queer instructor and what it means when intersectionality is at play.

  • Randal MacDonald and Darcy Kaser - Call the Kettle ... Fabulous
    Aug 24 2022

This episode is all about power couple Randall MacDonald and Darcy Kaser, who have recently celebrated their 30th anniversary.

We, of course, touch base on the love story they have written with each other, including their courtship of each other.

If you are from Edmonton or Vancouver, you may know Darcy and Randall from the very successful "Call the Kettle Black" franchise they built. For two decades, the store was an institution for everyone who craved the newest and best kitchenware. Darcy took the lead on this, and the blood and sweat led to its success.

At an early age, Randall was called to be on the stage, and he has continually pursued it. If his name and picture look familiar to you, then you are one to attend shows on stage (musicals, drama, and opera), on the TV screen, and on the silver screen.

This conversation runs the spectrum of learning more about the fabulous duo and how they have made their relationship work, to the opposite end of learning how Randall grew up in a very religious home and the effects of that upbringing.

When the podcast episode is titled "Call the Kettle . . . Fabulous", how can you not tune in?!?!

    In addition,
Darcy is at TierOne Travel working with the Queer community.

Randall can be found at his social media handle @randall_fabulista and his YouTube @therandallchannel

  • Devin Grayson - Trans Rally
    Aug 10 2022

2022 has been a year of big change for Devin Grayson.

Recently married, they have begun the process to be their authentic self. Devin is transgender and it is important for them that other individuals who identify as transgender will have access to resources that leads to success in the workforce.

This desire has brought forth, even more, change as Devin recently left his career in the financial world to create 'Trans Rally'.

Trans Rally is an organization that unites transgender professionals and allies in order to provide mutual aid. They offer job training and mock interviews for those seeking work and will also provide services like referrals when needed. The members will have access not only towards each other’s talents but will be able to find opportunities through member-only job boards. This will all be done without having any concerns about discrimination because their partner institutions are properly vetted.
More information can be found at www.transrally.org

In this interview, Devin and I discuss 'Trans Rally'.  Its origin and where it will go in the future.  We also get to know Devin as a person and learn about their journey of recognizing they are transgender.

Another person to become smitten with? A definite 'yes'!

    Aug 3 2022

Corine Demas joins 'Tales of the 2SLGBTQ+'

In this interview, Corine talks about her upcoming Fringe festival play titled, "The Bender." A play that weaves personal poetry throughout as the main character moves beyond the "fuckboys" in their past. Specifically, it is about a complicated relationship between Deloris, a 40-something queer woman, and Jordan, a young trans man who is a poet.

We also go beyond just the play and have a very real discussion on a variety of topics, including her (lack of) inclusion in the queer community, and navigating the world with a disability. In addition, Corine shares a couple of poems from her recent book"10 20 30 40".

Corine recently won the 2022 Mowat Diversity Award Winner and share with the audience her plans for the future.

Dr. Lulu is a Life Coach in San Antonio, Texas. Her mission is to help parents accept their LGBTQ+ kids without shame or blame.

Dr. Lulu came onto my radar about a year ago via Facebook. Colour me intrigued by this woman creating a safe space for parents of LGBTQIA youths.  In doing some exploration into this woman, I discovered so much more than my initial thought of a mother wanting their child to grow up being happy.  So . . . so much more.

She is an Indie Author and Indie Publisher. Her first book “How to Raise Well-Rounded Children,” debuted at number one on Amazon’s Hot New Releases in the Parenting genre, and is available on her website www.teenalive.com, and on Amazon, in paperback and e-version, and in the Texas Indie library. It received a 5 Star Rating from the Readers Favorites independent review.
Her latest addition in this series is a timely instructional handbook: How to Teach Your Children About Racism" which is a blog that literally went viral and debuted at number 1 in 3 separate categories on Amazon!

In addition, she also has a book titled “The Warrior Women Project” which I know we will find time to discuss specifically in today’s podcast episode.
She is also a freelance writer and frequent contributor to online as well as paper publications, including The Black Parenting magazine, The San Antonio Medicine, Parents magazine, The Washington Post to name a few. Her personal blog is www.wordsbyblackbutterfly.com.
