  • In this episode, we welcome Latisha Newby to discuss knowing your employment rights. Latisha is the Chief People and Legal Officer at Girl Scouts- North Carolina Coast Pines, as well as the CEO of Cultivate HR Consulting. Research indicates that Black women experience higher levels of discrimination in the workplace, so it’s important for us to know our rights and appropriate steps to address any violations of the law.  Latisha provides an “employment rights 101” overview, and shares about some of the common legal issues that Black women face.  She breaks down the definitions of commonly used legal terms and highlights pending law changes and trends that are relevant to many Black women in the workplace.  Additionally, Latisha also advises on the initial actions you should take if you feel your employment rights have been violated. In addition to sharing this insightful information about knowing our employment rights, Latisha also gives a glimpse into her professional journey and how she is embracing our season theme of our evolving identity as Black women leaders.   About Latisha Latisha Newby, is the dynamic Chief People and Legal Officer at Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines as well as the founder and CEO of Cultivate HR Consulting, an HR Consulting firm focused on supporting HR professionals and organizations with their HR needs. With over 15 years of rich experience in Human Resources, Latisha has been a transformative force at various levels. Not just an HR expert, she is also a licensed attorney in North Carolina, showcasing a unique blend of legal and people management skills. Latisha's educational background is as impressive as her career, holding a Juris Doctorate from North Carolina Central University School of Law and a Master of Science in Human Resources Development from Villanova University. Her dedication to strategic human resource management is evident in her approach to fostering an organizational culture anchored in equity, inclusivity, and growth. Beyond her professional endeavors, Latisha is an active volunteer with the Raleigh Metro SHRM Diversity Committee, balancing her busy life with family time with her husband, four children, and their beloved dog, Milo.
