  • You’re Breathing Anyway

    In this meditation we’ll draw some attention to the reality that we’re always breathing — automatically, constantly, and unconsciously. With this in mind we can begin to see the breath as a simple and natural anchor for our meditation practice, approaching it with the view that if we’re breathing anyway, we might as well use the breath as a support for our practice. This can be a surprisingly liberating way of relating to the breath, as it can help us to relax and release some of the effort and energy we tend to put into our meditation — offering us an object that requires nothing more than our simple and bare attention.   • Staying in the Middle

    In this meditation we’ll settle into a middle way between making too much effort and making no effort at all. Resting in this middle space we can invite a sense of openness and ease into our practice, learning to let go of the need to constantly exert ourselves, whilst at the same time maintaining the energy and enthusiasm we need to practice.   • Little Mountain

    In this meditation we’ll bring to mind the image of a mountain, becoming aware of its qualities of strength, resilience, and deep stillness, and we’ll then imagine ourselves merging with that mountain, absorbing all of those wonderful qualities into ourselves. By becoming a mountain in this symbolic way we can invite a strong sense of grounding and calm into our experience, feeling ourselves rooted and still in the midst of a busy world. This is a shorter version of the popular mountain meditation, and I hope that you can still take a lot from it.
