Alicia was going to be occupied for a few hours which gave Tyler and I the perfect opportunity to get some riding in. Because we were low on time, we opted to load our bikes into the back of Tyler's Toyota Tacoma and drove out to Harmon Den. We parked at the Harmon Den parking area with the intentions of riding a 75-mile route that would wind its way up to Buzzard's Roost, into Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and then along I-40, before reaching our final and most important destination: Hurricane Creek Road. The ride to Buzzard's Roost was fairly straight forward, besides the switchbacks and twists along the way. After crossing the Pigeon River we rode gravel for a minute or two until the first switchback presented an alternate adventure. A rough dirt path presented itself and led us to what's marked on the map as "Dual Sport Camp" - a beautiful little camping area next to a slow-moving part of the river. We took some photos here before turning back around and continuing our adventure. Within a few miles of twisty roads we were at our target, Buzzard's Roost. The only indication that you are there is a small Adventure Riders of North Carolina tag on the tree. We parked our bikes and walked down the steep trail to the overlook. It was wild. You really don't realize how high the elevation is until you're standing at the edge of a cliff looking down on the highway you arrived on. We snapped some more photos of each other before hiking back out and hopping onto the bikes. This is where things got interesting. I think both Tyler and myself assumed this part would be boring and we would just be cruising into GSMNP with realtive ease. However, as we made a left onto FS 287, the road gradually got worse. It became steeper, more muddy, and obviously less traveled. At one point Tyler slid sideways. I did my best to follow him, but found myself stuck near the top of the mountain with my motorcycle stalled. Tyler thought it was running rich, but we were able to get tit revived and carried on with our adventure. We came down some steep and technical trail and onto Old Cataloochee Turnpike in GSMNP. We took a moment to reconvene before heading down the road. To be continued.... ____________________________ Product Links!! If you use these links it really helps the channel!! • Honda Trail CT125: KEMIMOTO Rear Passenger Foot Pegs
    Oct 1 2023

Use code RodeoKM10 for 10% off (Valid through Oct. 30th, 2023) https://amzn.to/3PIMilo (***I was NOT paid to make this video. I was given a free test pair to install and I chose to make this video and offer my own opinion at my own free will.***) _____________________ Recently, KEMIMOTO reached out and asked if I'd be interested in trying their rear passenger footpads for the US model CT125. I absolutely said yes! There's a coffee shop right near me, as well as a grocery store, and sometimes I'd really like to zip over with my partner without having to hop in the car or walk. I know I have the XR, but sometimes I want the simplicity of the Trail 125, with its semi-automatic transmission. Its lower seat height and center of gravity makes it ideal for short neighborhood errands. I had already been thinking this would be a great route to go to have a quick way to zip around, and when KEMIMOTO reached out I was definitely excited to give this a try. In the box you get your passenger foot pegs, the clamps that are shaped to the CT125 swingarms, the necessary bolts and lock washers, directions to install them, and a 5mm Allen key. The quality of the footpegs is impressive. At the time of this review they are $79.04 USD on Amazon, and that seems reasonable for what they are. The footpegs are CNC machined aluminum which has been anodized black. They're sturdy without being heavy. That's an important feature for an accessory when you're working with 8hp. The included hardware is of good quality, and everything I needed to do the job was there....except a 6mm Allen, but we will get back to that in a second. I was impressed that the clamps had felt lining the side that contacts the swingarm in order to protect it from scratches. If it did not have this I would have added some protective 3M tape to the frame. Mounting the foot-pegs was really easy. There's only two bolts for each of the clamps to tighten it down onto the swingarm. The included 5mm wrench is for this very purpose. One of my only gripes with this is that there is not a specified torque value in KEMIMOTO's instructions. It merely says to tighten the foot peg down. If you've ever worked on a bicycle or motorcycle you'll know that it's very easy to strip aluminum and that torque values are very important. I'd like to see KEMIMOTO add a torque value for these bolts in the future. Mounting the foot peg itself to the clamp is also very easy and requires one bolt through each clamp. This bolt is bigger than the two used to mount the clamp but also comes with a lock washer. The foot peg has a male and female style square to help set the foot peg into its proper position. I liked this because it helps ensure the foot peg won't spin and that it's in the correct position. The hardest part of installing these was wiggling the tool back behind the clamp to tighten the bolts. Overall I'd say the difficulty of these was a 3/10. If you aren't mechanically inclined you will still find this very easy. Just make sure when you install these you do it with the bike on it's center stand. It'll be helpful having it out of the way. The harder side to install was the chain side because it is more cramped with the chain and the protector, so keep that in mind too. With them installed it was time for a test ride and me and my partner took it for a quick spin around the apartment complex and my garage. We do not have a passenger seat yet, so we did not want to venture too far. She was very impressed at how comfortable she felt on them. Her legs were at the right angle and she was not too high or too low with them. Her feet did not contact mine or any of the controls. Because this was a test she was wearing sandals but because of the proximity to the chain, ENSURE YOUR PASSENGER IS WEARING BOOTS. She will be wearing boots whenever we ride this in the future. I'm very impressed at the quality of these and at the ease of installation. KEMIMOTO did a great job with these.

  • Berm Park // Chestnut Mtn. Park: Champion, Wildcat & On the Fly (4K - 360°)

I haven't posted a mountain bike related video since I started this channel. Cycling is a huge part of my life, in addition to motorcycles, and so I thought I'd start sharing some of my mountain bike rides. Berm Park (Chestnut Mountain Park) is a public mountain bike park in Canton, NC. The trails are steep, flowy, and fast. On this particular day, Brian, Dave, Lennie, and myself met up in the mid afternoon to stretch the legs and take a fun run down Champion. Both Dave and Brian had ridden it before, but I was going in blind. Lennie too. The climb up Papertown Express was relatively painless despite the hot temperatures outside. We stopped a few times on the way up to drink water and chat a bit. I work with all three of these guys and it was so awesome to get out and do something outside of work with them. When we got to the top where the Champion trailhead was, each of us took a few minutes to pick a line and review the best way to roll into the rock garden at the very start of the trail. Champion starts fast and roars down the mountain. There's jumps, a gnarly rock drop (optional) and some sweeping switchbacks. At the bottom you roll back onto Papertown Express before heading back up the trail towards Wildcat and Ladybird. I had ridden Ladybird previously with Brian, but realized I had never been on Wildcat. Lucky for me, Brian wanted to rip this back down to Berm Park trails. I followed Dave for about half of the way until a technical section broke Brian and Dave's flow. I jumped in and rode the rest of the way down between the two of them in order to get some cool footage. Anyway, here it is. Berm Park & Chestnut Mountain Park. This video is long and I wanted to let people see what the complete trail looks like. ____________________________ Product Links!! If you use these links it really helps the channel!! • Exploring on 3x Honda Trail CT125s: Ivestor Gap Trail (PART 3 OF 3)

Wow. I really didn't know what to expect. Ivestor Gap Trail sits atop Black Balsam's parking area and is open to off-road vehicles from mid-August (we rode it on August 18th...) to January 1st. Ivestor Gap Trail begins with some sections that have been filled in with loose stone. I imagine at one time they would have been extremely washed out and proved to be some sort of challenge. As you roll across these sections you begin to enter the woods and start making your way into progressively chunkier gravel. Before you know it you're having to pick lines and dodge baby-head sized rocks as you weave in and out of standing puddles. It's important to pick good lines as to avoid flatting or damaging your motorcycle....more on that later......We crept our way up the trail, passing hikers every quarter mile or so. The view of the distant mountains was worth the struggle itself. When we finally made it to the top we were met with a breathtaking view of the mountains. Nestled in between two peaks, the overlook was grassy and overgrown. You could see remnants of previous campfires and tent sites. Some folks in a side-by-side had made it to this area before us. They had watched us pull in and then wandered off to hike the nearby trail. Josh, John, and myself enjoyed some snacks (courtesty of John....Josh and I forgot to bring food....) and some water while taking in the view. We shared some stories and thoughts about the trail. After a few minutes of recovery we loaded up and headed back down the trail to Black Balsam. We encountered more hikers on our way out, and most were friendly. Right before we were off the most technical part of the trail, I bashed my skid-late off a pile of rocks. I had been standing and was trying to negotiate the best lines I could. I miscalculated and whalloped the skid-plate off the rocks. We made it back to pavement and reconvened before heading out to the Blue Ridge Parkway. I had a killer time with these two dudes and I'm looking forward to riding with them again soon. A big shoutout to Josh and John for letting me film our ride and for being awesome and very kind dudes. Thanks guys!! -Jake ____________________________ Product Links!! We weaved our way through the valley and past a beautiful adventure bike moving in the opposite direction. He gave us a strange way and up ahead we saw some two dogs wandering their way into the road. Luckily they stopped, and we got by without a hitch. We carried on and made a quick detour to visit Cathedral Falls and French Broad Falls. The walk down took only a minute and it was well worth the detour. The falls are breathtaking and it was a really beautiful spot to catch our breath and cool down for a few minutes. From here we headed towards Wolf Creek Lake via Tanasee Gap Road which eventually became Canada Road. We took a few minutes at the lake to relieve ourselves and to talk shop with some folks that were super interested in getting CT125's! We saw a dude on a Honda Grom and someone on a Kawasaki Z125. From the lake, we zipped our way up and back to 215. Just before the intersection of the Blue Ridge Parkway, we stopped to relax and take in the view. We snapped a few pictures and prepared ourselves for what lay ahead - the Ivestor Gap Trail and all its technical goodness. We took off down the road and within 20 minutes we were nearing our turn to Black Balsam where the trail begins... TO BE CONTINUED... ____________________________ Product Links!! It was an absolute blast to get out with John and Josh. Two very cool dudes with an excellent choice in motorcycles! Josh and John had both hit me up asking if I'd like to ride on this particular Sunday. I had no plans and was hoping I'd be able to get out on the CT125 and enjoy the weather anyway since the XR150 is currently down (more on that later!). Josh and I had been trying to meet up over the last year but our schedules had never fully aligned. John had messaged me saying that we ride a lot of the same roads during the week, but I had never crossed paths with him. But boy, am I sure glad to have gotten to ride with these dudes! There's something really special about riding with people that are into the same motorcycle as you. First off, you share the same limitations. You can't really go fast, and you're resigned to the same controls, the same seat, and the same overall position. But second, because of these factors, you're really seeing the same things. You're having a very similar experience. And that is a really cool experience. Josh, John, and Jake (me)...the triple J threat.....met at the Waffle House on Brevard Road in Asheville, NC. We had a vague outline of what we were going to do but solidified our plans while Josh and I sipped some coffee. I was the last to arrive as I needed gas, but I was happy to observe their beautiful CT125's in the lot when I arrived. We headed out towards Brevard with Josh in control of navigation, me in the middle, and John bringing up the rear. We rode down 191 (Brevard Rd.) and onto Boyslton Highway (280) and down to Brevard. We got a ton of looks and even a wave from a train of Harley riders headed the opposite direction! In Brevard we stopped for gas and John was kind enough to fill our tanks for us. A whopping $5.20 and we were ready to set our sails towards Cathey's Creek Road. A quick 5 minutes of tarmac brought us to dirt and the fun began. Josh and John tore it up on the way to the waterfall. We weren't really sure if we were going to check it out, but I'm honestly really glad we did. It was stunning and surprisingly tall! The hike down was quick and the hike back up was pretty warm haha! From here we continued on down the dirt road until we came to an intersection where we headed out towards 215. John kept the bike upright from a fall on the dry, dusty gravel and we started working our way out towards Wolf Creek Lake. TO BE CONTINUED... ____________________________ Product Links!! More or less, a half mile after we stopped for the rattlesnake we found the same car stopped by a cyclist who was laying across the road and was clearly injured. We stopped, unsure of what's going on. Was he hit? Is he okay? The cyclist ultimately was okay. His adrenaline was pumping and as a result he needed a few minutes to find his bearings. He was able to sit up under his own power and stand with just a little assistance. I made sure he was aware of what was going on and offered to call his family for him. He declined. He had some deep gouges on his arm and might've broken his collar bone. Regardless, 911 was called to come look at him. He got up and after a few minutes carried on walking his bike down the road to his truck where he was going to meet emergency services. After the excitement Tyler and I rode the motorcycles up to Richland Balsam overlook, the highest point of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Tyler had never been up there before and we were able to use it as an opportunity to cool down and relax. The heat had become unbearable and riding at a higher elevation was the perfect remedy. We made it up without any issue and hung for a few before heading back to town where my apartment is. We had cooked ourselves in the heat and it was time to get some good food in our bellies!
