Last week, outgoing Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith decided it was in his and his school's best interest to show everyone that THE Ohio State University is still THE softest program in college football. Smith said there should be an asterisk next to Michigan's three wins over the Buckeyes, highlighting that even he apparently has no idea why his team keeps losing, despite consistent offseason championships.*

The biggest thing in all of pop culture over the past week-plus has been the rap battle going down between superstars Drake and Kendrick Lamar. And Michigan football co-opted the beef, seemingly picking a side in the best possible way. While it's something that seems like it doesn't matter, it actually could have some residual effects. The past week has been a weird one for Michigan football, losing many backup linebackers to the transfer portal, and a few others. But with the transfer portal now closed for undergrads (for the time being) we discuss how the Wolverines have ended up to this point. Yes, Michigan has lost 17 transfers, but maybe only two or three were expected to be contributors in 2024.

With that in mind, we then look to the 2023 class and why it's starting to resemble that of 2018 and its insane hit rate on high-quality players. How that class could determine this year's success.

Finally, Michigan did get an incoming transfer, with former Youngstown State wide receiver C.J. Charleston opting to come from Ohio to Ann Arbor.

While Michigan football didn't break the NFL draft record for most players taken by a single school in one draft, the Wolverines did break a school record and were often the talk of the draft (if not the town, since it was held in Detroit, Michigan this year). From J.J. McCarthy going to the Vikings, several players going to the Chargers, the late-round picks, the undrafted free agents, we touch just about them all as well as the weekend that was.

It's a tale of two sports this week as Michigan football has had some unexpected losses of (mostly) depth players to the transfer portal. We talk the departures of cornerback DJ Waller, linebacker Jeremiah Beasley, and offensive lineman Amir Herring and how that affects the team.
