  • Episode 8 | Conversations Series | Realizing Your Dreams: What Happens to a Dream Deferred? w/ Dr. Marcelle Haddix
    May 17 2021

What's Up, Let It Go, Squad! I am so excited to share the conversation in this episode with you!

In this episode, I had the privilege of chatting with one of my beloved yoga sisters who is doing amazing things to help black women and girls in her local community of Syracuse, NY.

Dr. Marcelle Haddix is a 500-hour certified registered yoga instructor and founder of zenG Yoga who specializes in yoga and mindfulness for underrepresented groups and for community-based organizations with strong commitments to reproductive health and food justice. She is co-founder of the Sankofa Reproductive Health & Healing Center and founding president of Cafe Sankofa Cooperative in Syracuse, NY. She also practices veganism and healthy, soulful living.  Her community-engaged approach to yoga, wellness, and healthy living culminate in yoga and writing retreats for women and couples of color, yoga and mindfulness workshops in urban school contexts, and regular yoga classes and sister circles in the Syracuse community. In addition to her work as a yoga and wellness instructor, she is a dean’s professor and chair of the literacy department at Syracuse University and a nationally recognized literacy scholar committed to centering Black literacies in educational practices and spaces.  She facilitates literacy programs for adolescent and adult communities in Syracuse, including the Writing Our Lives project for urban youth writers and a Black women’s literary club and free library project currently housed at Café Sankofa Cooperative.  Follow her at @zengangstayoga  on Facebook and Instagram and at  www.zengyoga.com

In this episode, Dr. Haddix and I discussed the power of dreaming, staying focused on our dreams, and finding the right support system to help propel you towards the realization of your dreams. We also discussed what it can feel like when it seems like our dreams may be delayed in their full realization in the present moment. As a bonus, we also had a special chat about her recent keynote presentation on Black Futures at the 2nd Annual Speculative Education Colloquium.

So, what has been holding you back from realizing the potential of achieving your God-given dreams? Get ready to let that go!

  • Episode 7 | Conversations Series | Healing the Pain of Being Black in America w/ Ron Walker
    Nov 23 2020
What's Up, Let It Go Squad! I am so excited to share the conversation in this episode with you!  In this episode, I had the privilege of chatting with one of my writing and authorship mentors, Author Ron Walker.  Ron Walker has been writing, speaking, and ministering for over fifteen years now. He delivers a powerful message of faith, focus, and determination. He is a licensed and ordained Christian minister that holds degrees in Biblical Studies, Theology, Psychology, and a Master’s in Organizational Leadership. He is currently the lead Pastor of Legacy Church International based in Atlanta, GA, and the author of over a dozen books, to include his latest title: Black in America: Healing from the Past, Progressing in the Present, and Building for the Future. You may be wondering, why did we invite a man to be a guest on a podcast geared towards women and girls? We invited him because aside from all of his accolades and accomplishments noted above,  Ron Walker is a husband, father, #girldad,  and leader in the body of Christ who has a powerful message for our community as a whole, regardless of your race, gender, faith, or preference I guarantee that there will be something in this conversation that will resonate with you that can help us all begin the healing process of moving forward from the pain of not only the perils of 2020 but also begin mending the wounds of deep-rooted inequities and disparities inherited from the past generations of our nation.   So what untreated pain from your past are you still holding onto? Get ready to let that go!   ------------------------------------------------------- Listen, Subscribe, Support, and Share! To support the Girl, Let it Go!
