Canes at the edge of the cliff after 3-2 overtime loss to the Rangers

  • Summary

  • The Canes went 0 for 5 on the power play for the 3rd consecutive game, gave up a shorthanded goal and lost in overtime for the second straight game as they fell to the Rangers, 3-2. The loss puts Carolina one game away from elimination. Game 4 is Saturday night. Jake Guentzel scored for the 2nd straight game as the Hurricanes took a 1-0 lead in a dominant first period. But, Chris Kreider's shorthanded goal midway through the second was the turning point as the Hurricanes special teams woes continued. On the bright side, the penalty kill was a perfect 4 for 4, but they lost the battle having been outscored 1-0 on their own power plays. Svechnikov's second playoff goal tied the game with 1:36 left in the 3rd, but Artemi Panarin's 4th playoff goal came just 1:43 into overtime.
