Big Frank caught up with Cody Canada ahead of the show on Thursday, April 25th at Brewster Street Icehouse. One of the most recognized names among the Oklahoma music culture, Cody Canada trails a 30-year music footprint stemming from the renowned music scene referred to as Red Dirt. Cody was recently honored with the Trailblazer Award at the Texas Country Music Association Awards show on November 12th at Billy Bob's Texas.
Cody Canada and The Departed has released 6 albums, several of those hitting 3 different Billboard charts. Cody Canada shows no signs of even remotely slowing down, and is making the best music of his life.
In 2018, Cody and his wife and manager, Shannon Canada, opened their School of Rock franchise in their hometown of New Braunfels, Texas, and immediately saw an influx of kids searching for like-minded souls who want to learn and play music. With performance based music lessons, School Of Rock nurtures the coming generation of artists and holds “live performance” as the pinnacle of academic excellence. Cody and Shannon's two sons are students at the school (Dierks 18, Willy 15) and are in their own band "Waves in April" that opens a lot of shows for Cody. Cody and Shannon travel around a lot with their students who have played some very impressive venues and festivals.
