This is a truly remarkable book that beautifully captures the journey we all undertake to succeed in the world. Each chapter offers valuable advice; however, the stories and examples behind them are even more impactful. They teach us how to navigate a complex world with kindness and openness toward others, while staying true to ourselves and our inner truths.

This was a great audiobook. Personally, I love listening to comedic memoir style books through audiobook, and it’s even better when they are written in the form of essays so that you can pick them up and put them down as the chapters progress. This was no different and I found the chapters on being 40 and making friends to be particularly helpful and relatable. Listening to the book by the author was a nice treat as well because her comedic timing is perfect and her tunnel and flexion kept me laughing. If you’re looking for a nice easy read for the summer this is it.

Jenny Hagel is one heck of a funny, relatable, endearingly flawed but genuinely kind human being. She’s a delight! And her advice is pretty darn good too! If you know her work as a comedy writer and want to follow in her illustrious footsteps, there’s some practical advice for you here. If you’re just starting out in any job or maybe just starting over someplace new, there’s something for you here too. Even for grizzled Gen Xers like me (who are no strangers to the joys of a good packing list 😉) there are plenty of practical tips and satisfying pop culture references! I don’t know if it’s just the Placebo Effect of hearing Jenny read her own warm, encouraging words; but I’m feeling a lot better about life and other people after finishing this book… And hoping that this particular medicine might come in two doses!
