So, I liked the book. It’s a 3.8 ⭐️ for me, but like most reviewing platforms you can’t give it that exact number.
Pro’s: Good story, characters were good as well. Loved the atmosphere, the trials themselves were interesting, some fun banter here and there. The love story (or what could be a love story) is there for sure.

Cons: The thing that fell flat for me, was some of the characters reasons for doing things didn’t make sense. The internal thoughts they both had were too much. Some of it could have been edited out, cause it was borderline repetitive. I listened and physically read this, I honestly think a different narrator should been picked for Cedric, also when it says Duet narration I’m expecting guy to play guys, and girl to play girls. That was not the case here at all sadly.

Over all, I ate the book up pretty fast. But I’m not sure I’ll continue this story, I don’t feel like I need to.

Long internal monologues aren’t my thing, sadly.

I have been in such a romantasy slump and this is just what I needed to pull me out 👏 I went into this with high hopes and it did not disappoint! I honestly wouldn’t change a thing, and I’m so excited to see what comes next!

This has everything I love…. trials, found family, prophecies, yearning and a delicious slow burn that I know is going to be so good when the time comes 🙌 The world building was also done so well!

The trials were high stakes and these had me on the edge of my seat. They kept me turning the pages to find out what came next. It was a nice change to have the FMC be the older, morally gray one and having her being the one saving the MMC. I also loved seeing all the relationships shift and develop throughout the trials!

There were a couple of things I saw coming but it didn’t take away from the experience in anyway and also a few that completely shocked me.

It’s advertised as duet but the only time the male spoke in female chapters was when the main male character spoke and vice versa for the female. It almost would have been less confusing as duel but that might just be me. The story was good and the narrators did well. It was just hard to get into like that.

I cannot stand how the male voice actor narrates the story. He’s sound like he should be narrating an episode of Bear Grylls. It’s very high pitched, and the cadence that he speaks almost gives a creepy old dark story teller vibe. The female voice actor is very good tho.

The story is great, think ACOTAR meets Hunger Games. Super interesting political dynamic. Romance is alright, like I said the male voice actor really throws me off. Other than that’s I enjoyed it and I’m looking forward to the next book.

The male voice actor sounds like an animal plant narrator.

Storyline is decent and the female narrator is decent as well, but the guy narrator….completely monotone! It was so aggravating and ruined the book for me. I found myself rolling my eyes and getting super annoyed every time his voice came on. I think if I’d read the book myself it’d have been much better!!
