I liked this story line better because it focused on a few characters. Love The BDB series, but sometimes I get the Brothers and there Shellans confused. Love this book and the series.

The narration was good. I as any audible listen, I would like to listen to a cast. On the note of the series, it's been a minute and I didn't re the series over before starting this one. Therefore, I can't place any of the characters. Must be a companion novella the Black Dagger Brotherhood. I'll definitely read again before the release of the next Legacy book.

I enjoyed the book! I read all the other reviews and I'm dissapointed in the fans. Unless it was pulled back, I never saw the words book 17. It was clearly a stand alone book when I purchased it. The author will have to reveal the purpose. However, as a diehard fan I'm sure this book was designed to add another layer to the BDB Universe. Im just about to start book 17, very excited.

This book was wonderful. I love Jim Frangione. He really makes the books seem like a movie. This story gave me another perspective on the civilians of the BDB society. It made me realize that not everything is what it seems. When you find out that the father is still alive after he kills all of his followers it makes you really question the humanity of others. However the ending where he was able to change his name to one his mom had given him made it seem more real.

Okay, this audiobook didn’t feature any of the usual characters from the Black Dagger Brotherhood and I was happy for it. Maybe because I have binged the series, I was getting tired of some of the characters I hated and the new characters they brought into Darius’ mansion.

So, “Prisoner of the Night” was a very nice story with completely new characters and introduced another facet of vampire life in Ms. Ward’s vampire world. As I am fascinated by people who form cults and the people who follow them, I welcomed this strange book about a vampire cult. Of course, it would be easy for a vampire to do with the way Ms. Ward’s world is set up and a lot of vampires being uneducated and cut off from each other, especially since Wrath was just letting everything kind of go to hell before he decided to rule. I like this dark angle.

The character, Ahmare, a young vampire set out to save her brother (he got into drugs and is being held captive by an evil vampire drug lord, not Revenge, but more old school in a castle, I got Dracula vibes) and she must kill a man and then find the drug dealer’s lover. She kills the man, (not a spoiler she just mentions she did it at the beginning) but then is given the second task and a hot male vampire in said Evil Drug Lord’s dungeon to help.

The hot male vampire, Duran, thinks Ahmare is hot too and when they set off on their adventure they just have sex because they both find each other attractive. This is when I know that Ms. Ward and I are the same age, about. I remember the good ol’ days when you would meet a nice man in a bar and it had been a while for you both and you just had sex. It didn’t have to be anything crazy. So, it’s that kind of sex, which seemed natural to me, but I am Gen X and normal. Young women today… I tell you my interns get more prude by the year.

I digress. Ahmare and Duran go into a vampire cult compound to find Evil Drug Lord’s lover and Duran was chosen to help because he grew up there. I really liked this book, it was dark and bad things happened. Lots of high emotions and just showing, what I like most about JR Ward’s books, that life isn’t really fair but you need to take good opportunities when they come your way and not get caught up in what anyone thinks about you or the past. Loved this.

As always Jim Fragione does a great job narrating but as I have said before, I am completely biased as I am in so deep with him. I would recommend this book to women who know what sexual desire really is and aren’t all caught up on feelings all the time, also to people who realize life isn’t fair, not even in romance novels all the time. This was a great addition to the series that needed to keep it dark. I hope to see other darker interlude books to keep the characters exciting.

A Much Needed Break From the BDB Mansion

I liked this story as I do all in the series. i gave this story 4 instead of 5 stars bc it wasnt really a BDB story. It was a story about others in the race but none of the BDB.
It is definitely worth the read, it was quick easy reading.
Enjoy! I cant wait for her next book in the series!

First, I enjoyed the book! I’m a fan of the series and of course want to keep up with all it’s chapters. That is why I’m So annoyed with all the people in the reviews complaining that this book focused on new characters rather than the main BDB characters. Clearly J. R. needed to introduce these new characters and their story in depth and a quick little flashback in a book featuring our main characters wouldn’t do. Let her tell the story the way she needs to without all the ridiculous whining. I’m sure when the next full story comes out and brings everything together, or however J.R. chooses to bring these new characters into the fold, some folks are going to look extra foolish, IJS. So yes, good book, new characters, see for yourself 😊

This book is a little more predictable than previous ones but is definitely worth the time. It was a nice change to the Brotherhood series to meet new characters and get to find out how others were affected by the raids and how they were dealing with the situation.
