Publisher's summary

From psychotherapist and TikTok personality Dr. Annie Zimmerman comes a toolkit to transform yourself and your relationships, with advice on how to heal past trauma, build sustainable connections, and take ownership of your mental health.

Every day, psychotherapist Dr. Annie Zimmerman meets clients in her private London practice who are struggling with their lives. They’re committed to achieving personal growth, making changes—but they’re struck at the question stage. They ask her: Why can’t I sleep? Why do I keep going back to a bad relationship? Why did I lose my temper? What is wrong with me?

Here’s the thing: nothing is wrong with them. It’s just that they’re asking themselves the wrong questions.

In Your Pocket Therapist, Dr. Zimmerman helps listeners delve into their past to identify unhelpful old patterns and teach them how to unlock the present. The book combines practical tools with anecdotes gleaned from the therapy room, distilling complex psychological concepts with her signature warmth and empathy. Her belief—galvanized by her hundreds of thousands of followers—is that if we learn to understand the roots of our suffering, we can bring about meaningful—and permanent—change in our lives. It comes down to learning how to ask the right questions.

A brilliant, necessary toolkit for those who want to break free from past patterns and embrace a life of abundant self-awareness and connection, Your Pocket Therapist is an absolute must-read in the field of psychology.

Very helpful!

Loved all the examples, but more so the exercises, pauses and self questions! Also loved the vulnerability of the author and talking through her experiences.

WOW

Just like the title this is pocket therapy, of course if you can afford one in person do that. But great job by the Author all around. I learnt a lot and this book reinforced things I am aware of and practicing. Very well done.

Wow

This book is narrated by the author, Dr. Annie Zimmerman. I thought I could listen to her read a phone book and find it interesting because of her soothing voice and British accent. But if she read a phone book I would have missed out on her passion to help people. This book is full of wisdom and insight and one that I will gladly keep in my pocket and listen to again and again.
Thank you!

Easy listen

it isn't groundbreaking, but presents relationship psychology in an easily digestible form. No radical takes or religious message either, so that's a plus!

Great examples

This book was good for many reasons. One that stood out to me was the realistic examples of how a lot of behaviors come about. Also how they can be corrected.

She breaks everything down in the best way

A must read! It’s helping me tremendously after 10 years of being in therapy and still struggling. I bought the hardcover book as well just because I wanted to support. Her voice is so nice.. love the accent!

Most comprehensive book on our relationship to self and to others.

I have followed the author on instagram ever since my son’s therapist suggested it. She has had some of the best content there and I was so excited when she announced this book. I was headed out to the bookstore when I realized it was on audible. I’m so grateful. Her knowledge and wisdom is expansive but her reading of her own work is warm and soothing. I binge listened and now I find myself going back to so acidic chapters to really deep dive into the places my own healing work needs to focus. The chapters are well decided to find exactly what I am looking for. I’m grateful to this book already and I know it will be one that sits atop my library in audible as I will turn to it again and again.
