Publisher's Summary

Your breath is a gateway to the vastness of the universe - and the path to your highest fulfillment. This is the premise behind Your Breathing Body, a landmark 2 volume breath-work curriculum from esteemed meditation teacher and Tibetan Buddhist scholar Reggie Ray.

Volume One presents an audio course with the beginner in mind. Volume 2 contains audio for the advanced practitioner. Blending somatic practices and breathing techniques from cultures and traditions around the world, Reggie gives you a practice-focused program that will show you how to "fathom your breath to its full depths" for physical healing, emotional balance, and, ultimately, the direct experience of who you are and where you fit in the cosmos.

Hard to Listen to This

Would you try another book from Reginald A. Ray and/or the narrator?

I would try reading this book, because the concepts presented seem very useful and worth my time, but the recording is either recorded poorly or the speaker is just one of those people who is really unpleasant to listen to. I'm not sure which.

What didn’t you like about the narrator’s performance?

He speaks in a rushed, breathless tone of voice. It's so odd-sounding that I wonder if it's actually the recording speed.

Any additional comments?

I've had trouble with all my Audible Books when I try to listen with my Apple iPod device. I get unpleasant echoes, or high-speed playback issues, seemingly at random. I have to go reload them from my desktop onto my iPod to resolve the issue, but then it'll reoccur later. Very frustrating, especially since the information in the books is so potentially interesting and useful, to have to put up with a lot of irritation in listening to them.

MASTERFUL!!!

From someone who located, then lived and studied with two of my ancestral peoples, Fon Vodun of ex-Dahomey (Benin Republic) and Theravada Buddhists in Burma (Myanmar), I found Dr Ray’s teachings to be extremely rare and valuable. Participating intimately, as a recognized tribal member, but raised in the US with Western traditions, was a challenge. Cultural differences, even more than language, posed both obvious and subtle dilemmas while living within and learning, ancient spiritual philosophies, liturgies, and dogma. Because in both places the ancient lifestyles remain present and alive.
All of Dr Ray’s works have provided the understandings and insights that enabled me to deeply absorb the wealth of spiritual knowledge so kindly offered to me by my ancestral peoples. And the enjoyment and appreciation of the societies and my people.
But, thus far, of Dr Ray’s works, “Your Breathing Body 2” is ultimately my greatest source of insight.
Dr Ray is a profound spiritualist and a talented teacher.

Breathing Body is a pleasure to listen to. It's not my first book by the author, I enjoy Reginald A. Ray books so much that I had to look for this one.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Your Breathing Body, Volume 2?

I love his teachings of spirituality, its advanced but easily understandable.

The calmness of the narrator weaves really well with the context of this book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, I like to savoir this book as it's that good!

Wonderful, like having a live teacher

I have been a dedicated meditator and spiritual practitioner for over 15 years, but lately I have felt myself getting further into a wide open space, which while blissful, did not feel complete. Where was my body in all this? So I downloaded Your Breathing Body Vol 2 (being a smartA**, I thought I could skip Vol 1, because I was somewhat experienced).

I got so much out of my immersion in the teachings that I realised I was shortchanging myself and am now doing the program contained on Vol 1. It is just as delightful, deep, beautiful, even thought the practices are more 'basic'. What this experience has taught me is that each practice, no matter how 'basic', is (literally) endlessly deep when approached in the right way. Reggie Ray is the perfect teacher for this guidance.

I note a few people have not enjoyed his delivery. I would say that this is an entirely personal matter. His is the only voice/delivery I have ever heard on an audio book that I have loved, rather than suffering through it. With his voice, Reggie conveys, warmth, compassion, detachment, in the proper meaning of the word (in that he is not all fake gooey and excited, but maintains warmth and connection), quiet authority (but not hierarchical arrogance) and he is very relaxing, but not in the put-you-to-sleep kind of way.

Highly, highly recommended.
