Publisher's Summary

Howard Zinn, author of A People's History of the United States, tells his personal stories about more than 30 years of fighting for social change, from teaching at Spelman College to recent protests against war. A former bombardier in World War II, Zinn emerged in the civil rights movement as a powerful voice for justice. Although he's a fierce critic, he gives us reason to hope that by learning from history and engaging politically, we can make a difference in the world.

mind blowing

Howard Zinn was one of life's special gifts. He was the ultimate American. He teaches us to love our country but not through militarism, parades and war victories but rather through the challenging of our government to be better and answer to the lies it has forced down our throats. There are times, while listening to this book, that I became very angry with our treatment of human beings yet Dr. Zinn always spoke optimistically about hope and compassion and always felt that our nation could one day be a kind, accepting and charitable to the entire world if we just try harder.

What a remarkable life

I am even more impressed with Howard Zinn after reading this book than I was after reading a People's History. He was an amazing individual.

A way to breath again

I a world of horrors and injustice you can take heart. There are stories of perseverance and a light shed on the things in humanity that make us worthwhile.

This book will get a second listen, no doubt!

I was familiar with Howard Zinn because of _A People's History of the United States_, which I had read excerpts of. _You Cant Be Neutral on a Moving Train_ was the first book of his that I "read" cover to cover. The pros is powerful, raw, and leaves you yearning for more. Zinn's anecdotes are priceless. (I LOVE the story about his tenure decision at BU!) Despite being 20 years old, _Can't Be Neutral_ is still as relevant today as when first published. David Strathairn does an excellent job narrating, with an easy to follow rhythm. My listen time was about 6.5 hours @ 1.15x. You will not be disappointed if you buy this book! Loved it so much, just bought the unabridged version of _A People's History_!

Zinn is a genius

Howard Zinn was a controversial figure who was passionately consistent in his work for the rights of Americans who are at the lower rungs of society. The story "Moving Train" tells a lot about his, and his wife's involvement in the crusade for voters' rights, as well as other social causes of his time. For readers of nonfiction and history, this is a must-read! Zinn's style is brisk and detailed at the same time. I find his work to be intensely absorbing.

Amazing book

With the current climate of civil rights this is a great read. It clearly shows this is not a new fight for justice and he gives compelling personal life stories and outlook on events from years later. Please give this book a read.
