Understanding an ADHD Diagnosis in Females

As a woman with ADHD who did not get her diagnosis until my mid-50s, this book is a breath of fresh air.  With its practical insights, I understand better now why my earlier years were so discouraging, and why I always felt as though I worked ten times harder than anyone else just to make half as much progress.

Ms. Henderson covers a lot of ground and provides a lot of information I hadn't known until I got my diagnosis.  But there is still so much stigma and denial in our society about the truth that females suffer with the challenges of ADHD as much as men.  And in some ways, with the societal "norm" of assuming all women should be able to handle their health, their appearance, their career, their house, their pets, their kids, their husband, and their marriage, etc. etc. etc., the challenges of ADHD on women can take an even bigger toll.

I like the pauses in narration here--they give listeners time to jot down notes, to capture the great advice this book offers.  The interactive elements too, provide the listener moments to pause to consider the lessons taught.

This would be a great resource for any woman who gets an ADHD diagnosis--it would go a long way to smoothing the transition to understanding in a way most recipients of the diagnosis never experience.  It would also be a great gift for friends and/or loved ones who desire to be understanding and supportive.

It was very well narrated and comes with strategy

I recently read a book that has completely changed my perspective on ADHD. This is an excellent resource for anyone who struggles with ADHD and wants to better understand the unique challenges that come with it. The audiobook does an excellent job of explaining how ADHD brains are not wrong, weak, or broken - just different. The author emphasizes that it's time to let go of things that are not working for us and engage with a way of being that aligns better with our strengths, needs, and who we really are. One of the things I appreciated about this book is that it highlights how the world is set up for neurotypical people, which makes it challenging for those with ADHD to fit in with these systems that are not matched to their needs. The author uses the analogy of trying to run a PS4 game on an Xbox to explain how the world is simply not set up for those with ADHD, and it's time to recognize this and make changes. The book is filled with practical tips and strategies for managing ADHD, including starting new things, stopping others, concentrating, studying, getting stuff done, paying bills, and getting on with life. The author's compassionate tone and understanding of the unique challenges faced by those with ADHD make this book a must-read for anyone with ADHD or anyone who wants to better understand this condition. Overall, I highly recommend to anyone who wants to better understand ADHD and learn how to manage it effectively. It's an excellent resource filled with valuable insights and practical advice that can help anyone with ADHD live a happier, more fulfilling life.
