Critic Reviews

"What shines through in this well-written book is the authors' great respect for these gritty, intelligent, and occasionally flawed women. The authors briefly tell each woman's life story in an enchanting storytelling voice, helping readers to see how these ancient stories still have meaning centuries later. The book is well-organized, offering a woman's story for every week of the year, as well as a week's worth of structured lessons and reflections." (Amazon.com review)

empowering

If you could sum up Women of the Bible in three words, what would they be?

educational, enlightening and insprirational.

Who was your favorite character and why?

ruth, because was she willing to give up everything that was familiar to her; Then venture on a journey that was unknown.

Have you listened to any of Sarah Rutan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

no, had no past reference.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

not extreme, but found it very educational and inspiring, since most of the Bible stories seemed more centered on the men of the Bible.

Any additional comments?

would recommend this to all women as a source of encouragement and inspirational.

So many Women

This is an inspirational book about the women of the bible. I didn't remember there being so many. The author did great background research. It's been interesting to pre-read the passages and then do the weekly study - sometimes a different observation or slant is presented. A good read.

Too Much Added

I felt that the author took too many liberties in expanding the stories of the women in the Bible.

Good content but to much for and audio study

Would you try another book from Ann Spangler and Jean E. Syswerda and/or Sarah Rutan?

The content is good but its to much volume wise to make an enjoyable study. If you are in inclined to go threw this study, I would recommend a hard back copy. Its not an enjoyable listen.

Would you be willing to try another book from Ann Spangler and Jean E. Syswerda ? Why or why not?

I would try again but in hard copy format.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It would be an enjoyable study in a hard copy format.

Powerfully different view on women

As a woman I had always seen myself as a second-class citizen, but after listening to this book repeatedly, I have a different opinion. Obviously I don't think women are superior, but how powerful and liberating this book has been. I didn't use it as a yearly Bible study, being disabled I have listened overnight, and during morning ablutions, in the presence of carers, over a period of about 10 days. I would recommend this book to any woman, or man, and expect a totally different mindset! 100% excellent!
