Not really romance

This book is good and engaging. Well written and brilliantly narrated (as always) by Sean Crisden. I found this story to be suspenseful enough to keep me listening, but if you're banking on steamy romance, you will be disappointed. The plot here revolves more around the mc's sister & her predicament and redemption for what is perceived as a past crime committed by said mc. There are vaguely romantic elements which only manifest in the last two chapters of the book and due to the drawn out unfolding, the ultimate steamy scene is such an anticlimax, that it could just as well have been omitted altogether. There's very little background story as to the history of the characters, which is a shame and a bit frustrating. All in all, a good read, though.

The story is well written and the characters are genuine and I could see these characters walking around in real life.

Everything wraps up in the end

The story was okay. Curious as to why the author wrapped everything up in the last 2 chapters… The chemistry/relationship between the 2 main characters was lacking. I just could not connect with them .

Good story. Good narration.

This one was a bit intense. I want to say that the guilt and accusations were a bit overly dramatic, but I grew up in areas like Whisper Ridge. Every tragedy is personal when you live in communities with a small population because you have fewer crisis situations to draw experience from.

The connection between Daniel and Micah is powerful. The narration was performed well, and the story was unique. I am looking forward to the next one in this series.

Bitter sweet

I love everything about this story. It’s so beautiful and sad in the most humane ways possible.

Do you like angst?

Unrelenting angst.
Sometimes I really like that. Today, this maybe was a bit much for me. I think that’s me being a mood reader more than criticism of the book.
I think the book was probably better than my enjoyment of it. Only complaint about the writing was that, as much time as was allotted to some parts of the story, the “wrapping up to end” seemed rushed. Did we get close to deadline and need to finish? About to hit that word count goal and hurry to tie a bow on everything? Maybe it’s being the first book in a series and the story will continue. I haven’t started book two yet.

This seems less “review” and more “random thoughts”.
If you like angst without much reprieve, in a well written book, you’ll probably like this one. Characters, setting, a few overlapping plot lines are all done well.

Not my favorite Sean Crisden narration. A bit odd for me, since he’s a favorite, but I found myself feeling like he was phoning it in through several passages. He did well with lots of emotional dialog from a wide array of characters.

Great combination of interesting characters, believable conflicts, and compelling story. Narration is a huge plus, really adds to the character development.

This is touching, emotional, and very well written. The characters are well reasoned and multifaceted. It was easy to become invested in their lives and journeys.
