Publisher's summary

With more than four million copies sold, Wifey is Judy Blume's hilarious, moving tale of a woman who trades in her conventional wifely duties for her wildest fantasies - and learns a lot about life along the way.

Sandy Pressman is a nice suburban wife whose boredom is getting the best of her. She could be making friends at the club, like her husband keeps encouraging her to do. Or working on her golf game. Or getting her hair done.

But for some reason, these things don't interest her as much as the naked man on the motorcycle....

Critic reviews

“It works perfectly! Wit, pathos, and the ring of real life.” (Los Angeles Examiner

“A very likeable heroine...a nice, upper-middle-class housewife with a very dirty mind.... Hide it where the children won't see it.” (The Cincinnati Enquirer)

70’s Classic

Wifey is a timeless treasure, just as hilarious and poignant now that I’m 52 as it was when I was too young to be reading it. Thank you, Audible, for releasing it.

Ahh, Memories...

I was a Blume fanatic as a kid and always received books 📚 for my birthday. I remember Deenie being the first "racy" book. Then came Forever in jr. high. I was thrilled to get Wifey for my 15th birthday from a family friend. She had NO idea. Nobody did. This was before the internet. WOW! Thank God my parents didn't believe in censorship when it came to the arts. We ; my Mom and my two sisters had an early form of book club we called read and rotate . We all liked it, but for different reasons. Back then my parents had been married for 35yrs and my sisters were 15 and 13 years older one divorced and the other married. Now having listened to it in my late 50's it's like a new book, yet just as wonderful!

Not pleasurable

My mine issue with my enjoyment of this book was that I couldn’t stand the Wifey. She just irritated me just like her vaginal itch irritated her. She seemed to lack a moral compass and was pretty selfish. Husband’s and wives should not make each other unhappy and they should share in and celebrate each other’s happiness but not be responsible for individual happiness.
The performance was really good.

Wifey is still timely.

I read Wifey as a young teen. So much better as I listened a second time around. Timeless.

Great read !

I loved it ! I almost felt as I was the character in the story. I have the whole book playing as a movie in my head.

Not my cup of tea

This was just so long and drawn out. No real climax or ending. I was disappointed.

Uncomfortable

I prefer Judy Blume’s children’s books to her adult ones. WIFEY felt very realistic for the time period in which it was written, which made for an uncomfortable read. It reminded me of the bad but not terrible marriages I saw in the 1970s, where a lot men routinely were heads of the household and didn’t treat women equally, especially their wives. WIFEY is uncomfortable while also being a triumph as Sandy finds her voice and embraces herself as a sexual being.
