If you’re struggling to stay on top of your to-do list, you probably have a good reason: anxiety, fatigue, depression, ADHD, or lack of support. For therapist KC Davis, the birth of her second child triggered a stress-mess cycle. The more behind she felt, the less motivated she was to start. She didn’t fold a single piece of laundry for seven months. One life-changing realization restored her sanity—and the functionality of her home: You don’t work for your home; your home works for you.

Finally, a housekeeping and organizational system developed for those of us who'd describe our current living situation as a "f--king mess" that we "really need to get around to fixing one day". Unf--k Your Habitat is for anyone who has been left behind by traditional aspirational systems - the ones that ignore single people with full-time jobs, people without kids but living with roommates, and people with mental illnesses or physical limitations. Most organizational books are aimed at stay-at-home moms and people who seem to have unimaginable amounts of free time.

Most of us know we own too much stuff. We feel the weight and burden of our clutter, and we tire of cleaning and managing and organizing. While excess consumption leads to bigger houses, faster cars, fancier technology, and cluttered homes, it never brings happiness. Rather, it results in a desire for more. It redirects our greatest passions to things that can never fulfill, and it distracts us from the very lives we wish we were living. But it doesn't have to be this way.

Not your mama's organizing book
Buy it!
You will be "Star"tled by the key reveal! It's not about color coding your books on the shelf, pretty boxes, or putting your hangers backwards to find which clothes you don't wear. Rather, it's about how clutter can give you key insights into your own life! Mind blown, I know! This book is about so much more than just our stuff. You might not suspect it with the funny potty mouth title (which I love), but you'll find Star to be achingly kind and supportive as she guides us in going way more meta than you would have thought you could get in a book about clutter.
And as an actress -- who felt the repeated call to heal -- turned organizing whisperer, her voice is soothing, comforting, and encouraging, like the organizing whisperer girlfriend you always wish you had! You really feel like she's talking to you. Her examples can be so universal, that you think she's talking about you! She can be serious and still be hilarious. Thank you, Star!
I can't say enough good things about her book! I gifted it to a friend and my friend reported being surprised at the content (Not your Mama's organizing book!) and how good it was.
Like I said... Buy it!
As Star said... (I'm paraphrasing), let clutter guide you to come home to yourself.

Really enjoyed audiobook - proactive and nonjudgmental and GREAT narration!
I've read (or listened to) at least 12 books on decluttering and organizing within the 1-2 years... 5 or 6 within the last 2 weeks alone, including this book... I keep looking for the one that "sparks" me into decluttering bliss. I *thought* I was looking for more of a "step-by-step on how to" manual, which isn't this book, but maybe that's why the rest aren't working. There are at least 10 other well-known and often-recommended books that focus of the problem of clutter, but this has a different approach. I already knew that my clutter was emotionally difficult and therefore literally and metaphorically closeted (I'm very much a "ladybug" if you've read that one)... it seems like such an obvious perspective shift now, but I hadn't considered "what ELSE is it telling me aside from why I'm avoiding it". Admittedly, I'm not any more motivated to tackle my garage just yet, but I appreciate this more empowered and thoughtful approach.
Also, the author as the narrator is fantastic... she's enjoyable and/or easy to listen to, even when discussing really upsetting or triggering experiences. As long as you are okay with "content that may be triggering for some," I definitely recommend the book. (And, FWIW, I was previously unfamiliar with this author.)

Philosophy is there, but I'm still not organized
I felt like this rolled all the philosophy around clutter, and getting organized into one place, which is nice (like with like!) but, other than suggesting you find a body doubling partner, and that clutter begats clutter, I didn't really walk away with anything of actual nuts and bolts value. It sounded like it was going to really lay out action items. It laid out philosophical action items. I appreciate that it's for organized all into one place, and I appreciate the idea clutter is here to teach me something, but I actually need the nuts and bolts solution. I get that the writer is going to read this review and say "she didn't get it" and she would be right. I did not get it.

Not a good fit for me
This book is about the emotional problems that can cause your clutter. It's best for folks who have an emotional block to handling it or have trauma associated with the clutter or where it's located. If your challenges with clutter are more about buying too much or basic emotional attachment to things, this is not an effective book.
