Publisher's summary

The sixth book in the Rose Gardner Investigations series.

For months, Rose has suspected her ex-brother-in-law, has a foot in the criminal world, and she’s equally sure her deceased sister had the evidence to prove it - evidence stolen days just days after Violet’s death.

Those suspicions turn concrete when a body shows up near one of Mike's construction sites, and the concrete cracks open wide when her niece and nephew go missing.

Rose might be weeks away from delivering her own baby, but that doesn’t stop her and her best friend, Neely Kate, from looking for the kids. She needs answers and fast, but her search leads her to the man who betrayed her months ago...the father of her baby.

James “Skeeter” Malcolm has been playing games with her for months - refusing to relinquish her paternity but refusing to tell her why. James knows what Mike is up to - Rose is sure of it - but can she convince him to tell help before it’s too late?

Suspenseful

As usual, Rose takes matters into her hands and tries to find her niece and nephew on her own. What she doesn't realize is that she is in labor. Rose doesn't want to risk Neely Kate's chances of adopting a baby of her own, so she doesn't tell her best friend. Rose should have told Joe or Jed, but she knows they would stop her.

Where is Mike, Rose's brother-in-law? Hiding. He knows his children have been taken but why didn't he contact Rose to get help?

All evidence looks like Skeeter Malcolm has gone to the darkside, but I don't think so. i believe Skeeter is working undercover for the Government and he has distanced himself from everyone he lives to protect them.

This next book will be worth the wait.

Rose annoyed me in this one

Rose and her bad decisions annoyed me in this book. I rolled my eyes so much during listening to this book. Its so obvy she still has feelings for Skeeter so annoying but understandable since it is hard to get over your first. I am looking forward to the next installment even though this book tapped danced on my last nerve.

Rose!

It was a long wait but well worth it to hear Shannon McManus as Rose again. Rose and Joe are planning to raise her child together if Skeeter Malcolm doesn't tear them apart. I hope the next book comes soon but I'll wait as long as it takes Denise Grover Swank to write it since I know she always writes such wonderful books.

Letting go of the Past and Embracing the Future

This installment of Rose Gardiner’s complicated messy life packed quite an emotional punch. It was a roller coaster ride of all the things wrapped up in all the feelings. Rose is two weeks from her due date. Joe is living with her and they are preparing together for the birth but Rose’s feelings are complicated for Joe and for James. She has been staying out of the criminal world for months but then her niece and nephew go missing and she is forced into reaching out to try to help with the investigation. This book was almost impossible to put down while I was waiting to hear how things were going to be resolved with the kids, with her baby, with Joe, and with Hardshaw. The book was well written and included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters, and an engaging storyline as shown through sweet moments, exciting action, danger, family drama, painful pasts, mystery, plot twists, imperfect characters, missteps, and all the big feels. I cannot wait to read what happens next in Rose’s life.

Shannon McManus once again did a great job narrating the story and characters into life with enough change of inflection, tone and cadence to voice multiple characters quite convincingly.

Annoying

This is the worst book ever. All she does is talk in circles. She totally talks to much about nothing
