Publisher's Summary

Their love is forbidden, but their hearts aren't listening to rules and regulations....

Lieutenant Dustin Strauss is a reformed man. No longer a 20-something hell-raiser, he's his SEAL team's new XO - and a man with a secret. Or seven. He's kept his bisexual identity under wraps for years, along with his kinky side and a fondness for the military-themed semi-anonymous hookup website Joe4Joe. His latest chat buddy is more than a sexy online distraction - they're taking their very not-safe-for-work relationship into real time.

Petty Officer Wes Lowe has a smart mouth, a take-charge attitude, and an uncanny ability for making things go boom. The life of an enlisted man isn't always enough to satisfy him, but one wild, no-questions-asked weekend with his online love comes close. When a transfer order comes in, Wes feels ready and centered. He'll make a good impression on his new SEAL team and keep his growing feelings for Dustin on the down low.

But as they log more time online and some very real emotions surface, Dustin and Wes struggle to pretend they're just a harmless fling. And when his commander introduces Dustin to his team's newest member, they're in for the shock of a lifetime...and a crushing disappointment: their difference in ranks means even a friendship without sexual contact could end their navy careers for good.

With their hearts on the line, Dustin and Wes may not survive their next mission, let alone find a way toward a future together.

Emotional and Engaging

4.5

I’m generally not a huge fan of military fraternization forbidden love stories because most never find that balance between believable conflict/angst and hot military m/m action that most fans come to the material for. Usually it’s just “my career is SUPER important so we can’t be together” followed by ridiculous chance taking for hot sex and a HEA scenario so contrived it should have a Disney princess stamp of approval. Not so with “Wheels Up”, an emotionally engaging story about two men caught between the careers they have worked so hard for and the real and personal connection they never thought they would find.

For me, Wes and Dustin’s difficulty in staying away from one another wasn’t the usual irritating rollercoaster of angst and drama because it wasn’t based in the “your just soooo sexy I can’t stay away” lust that generally seems to motivate the characters, but in the friendship and connection they established during their online relationship. By the time they meet in person, they have spent as much time watching movies together and learning about each other as they have in sexcapades.

Additionally, the times they caved and spoke over the phone or spent time together was usually prompted by the need for emotional support and missing the camaraderie and bond they shared as opposed to missing sex. This was a really enjoyable read with complex characters in a complex situation, and while the ending isn’t a traditional HEA, it is definitely one that works for the characters and their situation.

Not up to par

As someone who has read every book in the out of uniform series I have to confess I was seriously disapointed in this book. If all you care about is steamy smut with no real story this is the book for you.

Not everyone deserves a book.

totally dislike Dustin in this book. He just seems like a whiny individual throughout the entire story. I understand that as a superior officer you are not allowed to fraternize with somebody who is lower-ranking than you but I just feel as though he was playing with Wes's emotions throughout the entire story. He wanted Wes then he didn't want Wes, he wanted Wes to have sex with him, then he told Wes he needs to go. It was like a tennis match but not as entertaining.

Wes on the other hand put up with a lot from Dustin. I don't think I would be able to deal with the type of individual who is undecisive but wants his cake and eat it too. I just needed Wes to say you know something I can't do this anymore. When he did put his foot down and it just seemed to come too late in the story.

I don't think this book was necessary. I don't think it was needed. I can understand why this book was written because we are introduced to new characters but Dustin didn't need a love story. I think that I could have gone without realizing that 1) he was bisexual and 2) that he was a really self-loathing individual.

Favorite of the series so far

I loved this! I have a hard time with high angst high drama when it comes to the relationship in romances. There is no question as to how these two feel from the first. All the drama comes from external issues rather than uncertainty and miscommunication. My only issue was a small narration choice… the texts are read disjointedly as if someone were reading the words at the pace and awkward cadence of reading a text out loud as you were typing it rather than as if it was an actual conversation. It wouldn’t be such an issue except so much of the important parts of their relationship takes place in text conversations.

HOT & SEXY!!

So far, this scorcher is my favorite in the series. A delicious continuation of military men, in yet a new & different dynamic. Facing the challenge of caring for someone under your command is rough!! The HEA is only achieved when they work together.

Greg Boudreaux's seductive voice added so much to all involved. He's one of my favorite narrators, so anything he does I enjoy!!

On to book 5.....

Just ok, frustrating at times

Hated to be in their shoes!

Curly is the most annoying and nosy side character ever. Not sure why he said things, and feel sorry at the end and stating he got MCs back? WTF what’s ur motivation bruh? Nosy much!

So Damn Good

I absofreakinglutely loved this story. Dustin and Wes are two of my favorite characters from Annabeth. Everything about this story hits all my buttons and the narration was so spot on. It was what I heard in my head when I read the story the first time.

not for the Romantic, this is BDSM

I really like the "Out of Uniform" series that I read before this book. I like the conflicts and the solutions and the romance. This book is very much BDSM, not hard core but more than the romantic person I am wants to hear. i did not listen to the full book, I skipped the sex parts and just followed the story. The story was good, but punching it with the BDSM was not for me at all.

Need more....

This was a great book to listen too...I wish that it would continue on with the characters to see how life goes. This was the fourth book I have listened to by this author, I have to say it was the best one yet.

Dustin & Wes

The mc's meet on a dating app and also click in person. The mc's bi amd gay and have definite BDSM prefereces. By listening to the story I discovered I did not like the story as much as the others in this great series. I like Wes and his care for his sister, family and Dustin and his care for both their military career. Dustin I found less likable, he has good intentions but seems to go about things less well for both.
Narration was wekl done as usual by Greg.

Excellent

Another great installment of the series. This one wasn’t my fave, because of the BDSM lite aspects, but it was still a great listen. Greg Boudreaux is one of my favorite narrators.

Boring

Not sure if the narration was good or bad, but the story was boring. Both MC's were interchangeably written and had the same voice. They hook up and become team members later. "Oh I wish to kiss him!" "Oh it is so hard to avoid him". The end.

Terrible

Great series, and i love Annabeth Albert's books as a rule, but this one was awful. Greg narrated it so amazingly I really wanted to like it and almost convinced myself I did, but the characters were 2D, the pacing was off, and the whole things was made worse by how much potential the story had. I love dom/sub dynamics, but perfect-dom/pathetic-sub is a no-no for me, and it was weird because Dustin was meant to be older and superior but we only ever saw him weak (except a token scene at the end that felt like an after thought). Nope it was heartbreakingly disappointing. *cries*

Wow - sex scene steam!!!

Now being a lover of all things mm and hot sex scenes of all genres they can all run into one another... not many scenes make me tingle anymore and frazzle me but boy the ones in this book are hot!!! Love the story but when a scene makes my bestie laugh at me when she can see how it got to me when I’m simply describing it to her, you know it’s good! This ones makes my top 5 hottest books!
