Zach Adams is one of the best detectives in the country. Nicknamed Cowboy, he serves on a federal task force that has a single mission: to hunt down Dominic Abend, a European gangster.

After a brutal murder gives them a lead, Zach feels like he's finally on Abend's trail. But things get complicated and very, very weird. Zach is beginning to suspect that Abend's evil goes beyond crime - perhaps to the edge of the supernatural.

In a centuries-old forest under a full moon, a beast assaults him, cursing him forever. In the aftermath Zach is transformed into something horrible - something deadly. Now the good cop has innocent blood on his hands. He has killed - and he will kill again - in the form of a beast that can't be controlled or stopped.

Saw the author Andrew Klavan on the Patrick Coffin show and he mentioned his poorly named book Werewolf Cop. The author is an erudite, skilled writer AND outstanding narrator (like his Dad) who wrote and performed this wonderful piece of fiction. For the record, it’s not poorly named. In fact, this is a terrific novel of love, faith, the supernatural with rich characters who are both great and flawed. You know, like reality is. I also liked the novel’s Sturm und Drang both literal and literally. I am hoping there’s a sequel to this. This is a sleeper people so don’t miss this one because of the name. Thanks Andrew! You’re a truly gifted author.

Sleeper Alert! Fabulous, deep, textured novel with a funny name

This book is the kind I search for. It's well-written. Horror is a genre I avoid, but I must have purchased this based on a recommendation and didn't notice it was under Horror until it was already in my audio library and I was going through the books to pick out the next listen.

Based on the blurb and the reviews I decided to give it a try instead of returning it right away just because it was filed as Horror. I had just tried out 3 books that were basically dreck and two of them had been labeled as Thrillers but were over-the-top Horror.

Werewolf Cop's version of horror was not like these other books. Yes, there were horrific things in the book, but it felt more distant - like reading a newspaper article about something terrible - and not like the dreck books I had just experienced that were perverse dramatic self-serving hero first-person points of view. Horror books written in first-person don't have the distance I need. Werewolf Cop could be in the Thriller section because gory details are not the main focus of the story.

It's the observant writing style that kept me interested and this book was finished in two days. The author notices people and uses that to full effect to enhance the story.

This book is highly recommended for someone who is searching for a masterpiece of writing. The narration is also very good.

Andrew Klavan, keep writing/speaking and I'll continue reading/listening. An exceptional addition to the genre. Great.

Fantastically Written And Fantastically Peformed

It was an extremely well written book that made for both a good character piece and a well formed crime story. Each character had life to them; with flaws and traits that made them likeable. The major plot point, the crime the main character is following, is complex until you find all the pieces, with many lying in front of you and unravels and makes a lot of sense as you see the main character deduce it before you. I would highly recommend this book to anyone.
