Great book

This is my 2nd Klavan book in a week. I listen to the audio books because I can listen while operating lawn maintenance business. This one just like the other (the great good thing) I just couldn't seem to put down. I am hooked and will continue listening to the Klavan library.

gave it another listen and liked it better

I dont typically read or listen to the same book twice, but I vaguely remembered some of the points being made tie into today's media so I gave it another listen. I recaled when hearing it for the first time thinking the media sin was a bit much, but given way I know today it made it more believable.

Written in 2008 but fits perfectly in 2023

I was surprised when I realized this was written in 2008, it’s more true today then ever. However, the sexual crassness of the main character was off putting and unnecessary and disappointing given the Christian faith of the character. I suppose as a woman I find it more vulgar than a man would. And I thought the whole theme was a little overstated given current events but it wasn’t until the very end that I knew it was written 15 years ago!!

Masterfully constructed. A true work of art expressing the absurdity and danger of leftist modern anti western philosophy in the face of a true and present Evil.

Going back to clean your mother's room gets messy!

A middle-aged conservative fantasy action thriller wherein the hero gets to crack lefty proffesor's knee caps because...Islam, attractive young submissive girls give older married men their number and address because...shiny head sex appeal, praying gives you the answers because...Jesus, and Captain Kirk saves the day because...'Murica'. Witty and emotional but mostly tickety-boo; trigger warning this is an Andrew Klavan novel.

One of Klavan’s Heavier Books

I have read over 25 of Andrew Klavan’s books and he’s easily one of my favorite authors. This specific work I just finished reading for a second time and I can assure you, it’s great.
Klavan has spoken about how this was one of the more difficult books for him to write, and that while writing it he frequently considered giving up writing altogether. (And we are all grateful that he didn’t.) But you can feel that weight, and the pain he was expressing bleed through the words of this story. In many ways the terrorist thriller plot is VERY MUCH secondary to the main characters journey of confronting the truth about who he is.
The book is very well written on a technical level and from the first sentence it feels like not a moment is wasted. While this isn’t the most action packed or the most thrilling/entertaining book Klavan has written, it’s definitely one that will make you reflect alongside the main character. This is easily a 5/5 for me, and his reading of the book is equally excellent.
