NOT YOUR AVERAGE VEGAN BOOK!

This book was so good that I actually finished it in one sitting. You might be turned off by the idea of reading a book with the word 'vegan' in the title, but I promise you that this book is far from what you're expecting. It is entertaining, educational, and well presented. It is refreshing to see veganism presented with a healthy side of good humor. It is also nice that the authors read the book themselves. If you're boring and shy away from controversial topics, then maybe this book isn't for you.

Through their witty humor, personal experience, and relevant research, they lay out a lot of myths and facts that just might challenge the way you currently live your life, whether you are currently eating meat with every meal or you have banned all animal products from your life. This book is about being a better person...or at least less of an a**hole! ;)

Very informative and entertaining!

Both my teenagers are vegan, and I have tried my best to cook vegan most days. I appreciate the author's comments about not trying to be perfect all the time. My kids are very appreciative of my efforts and I love the food as well. But sometimes it doesn't always work out to eat vegan. I am working on it! There are some killer homemade vegan recipes out there! Great book I really enjoyed it.

Honest review from a fellow vodka drinking vegan..

Ok, I'm going to try to be diplomatic here. Being a vegan (which I am) is important. For your health. For the animals. For the planet. These guys get that. Plus they like to drink and from the cover, dress well. 2 stars for all of that. Unfortunately that's where my admiration for this book ends.

As far as the narration, content and overall experience, this is awful. I was encouraged at first. A couple passionate guys cussing up a storm and laying out their veggie and animal loving philosophy. It was refreshing. It was entertaining. But...pretty soon, the profanity just seemed obnoxiously silly. Rather than tossing in a bad word here or there, it was pretty much every other sentence. They were trying way too hard. What started out as funny, just became hard to listen to and reeked of immaturity. Remember, this is an important topic. You don't want your audio book to be hard to listen to. This one is.

Furthering the "hard to listen to" vibe, the book seemed to be written, and likely edited, by a couple guys who never got much beyond a C+ in their college composition class. I felt like a high school kid could have easily been the one writing what I was listening to.

Lastly, these guys narrated their own book. I admire the effort, but they should have paid someone. Their voices aren't at the caliber of your typical Audible book narrator, and further emphasized the overall amateurish experience.

As far as the content, there wasn't much substance. Few specifics. Eating animals is wrong and unhealthy, both for the consumer and the planet. That sums it up. The book is filled with personal stories and anecdotes, but little science or statistics. I didn't expect to be listening to a book like Dr. Greger's "How Not To Die" which is absolutely excellent and full of statistics...data you can arm yourself with to make a strong case as to why a plant based diet is so important. They went off on a tangent about their frat style parties (they were out of college at this point) at a bachelor pad, guzzling vodka, playing beer pong, etc. Who cares? I think the point was, you can still enjoy alcohol and have an awesome social life being vegan, but what could have been mentioned in a few words, dragged on and on. Do we need to know about their keg stands and such? After that, was a long section on how the family dog was dying. It wasn't told in a compelling way, wasn't narrated gracefully, and didn't add anything to the story. From there, it was on to puppy mills. None of that has much of anything to do with eating a vegan diet. Personal anecdotes. That's the entire book.

I should have known there wasn't going to be too much "tofu" to bite into, seeing that the book was only 5 hours long. In fact, I'm not sure I've purchased a shorter audio book. By comparison, "How Not To Die" by Dr. Michael Greger is over 17 hours long.

If you want a hip, cool, relevant book on all things veganism, listen to "The Happy Vegan" written by Russell Simmons (hip hop mogul) and Chris Morrow. It's about an hour longer, and chock full of information that might change your life. Might safe your life. Might turn someone else's life around. There is profanity in that book too. Just not gratuitous use of it.

These frat boys don't want to seen as "a**holes." Somehow, that's exactly how they came off. I'm guessing all of the positive reviews are some of the same folks who attended their raging parties. I'd save your credit, or your money.

Good cause. Disappointed in purchase.

I applaud and support the purpose behind the book, but these guys are obnoxious. Seem like a couple of self absorbed, egotistical brothers who find it very important to be considered "the cool vegans" and go overboard in their crude presentation.

Great Book!

I began the slow transition to becoming a vegan last year because of the cruelty and suffering of animals in factory farms. I only wish I had read this book a year ago. I recognized I was becoming one of those preachy vegans and felt some bitterness at times towards non vegans. I have definitely learned from this book that using a more positive encouraging approach is the best way to help the animals. I will definitely be giving this book to non vegan friends and family.
