Great story but…

The main female character, Myla was difficult to like. She came across as a selfish, self-centered whiner who wanted everything to revolve around her. Loved Ryot but hated how he sometimes came across as weak as he groveled to Myla. It got old real quick hearing him apologize every 10 seconds and practically kiss her butt in Macy’s window. With that said, he was great when he fought back. And I thought his love for her was a bit obsessive. You could practically feel Ryot’s love for Myla but not so much her love for him. Kyla’s friends, Nicole wasn’t very likable either. Due to jealousy she tried to undermine Royt’s and Myla’s relationship before and after they were married. Loved the outstanding performance by Jason Clarke he has a very sensual voice. Didn’t much care for the valley-girl type voice that Stella Hunter used for Myla when the character was being witty, coy or vindictive. Anyway all of the supporting were good. I have to go back and read the two books that this one spinned off from. This is my first time reading this author and I’ll read more. I hope Ryots’ brother get a story of his own if one isn’t already floating around somewhere.

love the performance, the heroine was lame

The lead female was hard to like or understand, she basically throws in the towel without any preamble. for how much they are made out to love one another I just don't buy it. and Ryot just wanted to make the marriage work. I get he made mistakes but if she would have communicated it would have been a non-issue. it just was hard to believe especially since they essentially made Ryot out to be saint, albeit career driven. it was kind of irritating for him to take sole response. performance was 100%. I love Meghan Quinn and I look forward to future books with these characters. I loved the other books. The characters just weren't for me.

Enjoyable

There are things I really loved about this and things I didn’t, we’ll really one thing, kind of.

What I loved:
1. Loved the humor and steam, as I always do.
2. The MMC tried so hard to show how he loved her. Yes, he didn’t always do it right but he tried.
3. The idea that people don’t “see” their spouse anymore as marriages go on is accurate, and I think I really connected to that story and even the heroine.
4. I loved the moving from past to present. We were able to see them fall in love in the past even if we watched them falling apart and coming together in the present.


What I didn’t love:
1. Myla as a an adult was hard for me sometimes. I get she didn’t feel seen and she wanted him to see that, but when he was aware, he wanted to badly to fix it and she was just like no. It was really hard for me to reconcile that. He was unaware. I just kept thinking if this was me, and I truly didn’t know, I would be devastated that my spouse never said anything to me about fixing things. It’s a two way street and she never opened her mouth.
2. The best friend was a hard pass for me for most of the book, but then at the end. I just loved her.

There was so much to love about this book, I just didn’t overall connect with the heroines on this one. There are definitely things revealed near the end that make her more sympathetic, but there was just too many chapters of me being annoyed with her. I had a hard time relating to her.

The audiobook was really good though, and well done by the narrators.

Excellent spin off from the Cane Bros series!

I read all 3 Cane Bros books before finding this one. This is such a great spin off and I fell in love with the story of Ryot and Mila. It was exciting, heart wrenching, sensual, and everything else that goes along with those feelings. I really hope Meghan Quinn continues story lines with all of theee characters!!

Speechless…

This book had me in tears, furious, and laughing through the whole thing! Meghan Quinn you sure know how to create a beautiful story, start to finish!

Wow

Right from the start I wasn’t sure I wanted to read this book because of the subject matter. It really hurt reading this. Relationships are so fragile. I love this author. Oh and I know for a fact some of the spiciest scenes I ever read so far. This book is a 7 out of 5 spice. This story about a married couple and what can happen in a marriage was so truthful.

Emotional Roller Coaster

I really enjoyed this book. I appreciated the look into mental health and the toll it takes on our healthy relationships. It’s a heavy topic but the author managed to keep the story light with sprinkles of laughter.

Ryot deserved better!

This is the first time actually writing a review beyond a sentence. Myla was a selfish person. Ryot loved her. He had to retire because of an injury and went through a life changing event with bad statistics, bad arm, media scrutiny. His wife should have been supportive and understanding. Both should have communicated better. Myla should have been in ongoing counseling becausing she has issues. Ryot was a blessing to her and she did not realize it. I wish she would have disappeared and Ryot found a better woman for him. I wish the epilogue would have kept them separated and divorced with a second book with him finding a woman to appreciate him.
The narrators were perfect as usual.

Can this marriage be saved?

Ryot and Myla have known each other for 11 years. Their story is told with some flashbacks from their first disastrous meeting until the present when Myla presents Ryot with divorce papers. He's stunned because he has no idea that their marriage isn't happy. He's retired from professional baseball and has uprooted them to California to start a new baseball podcast. Myla doesn't feel like she matters to Ryot anymore. Ryot feels like he has a chance to show Myla that he still loves her and wants her to be happy.
There are so many ups and downs in this book and brings out all kinds of feelings. Listening to Jason Clarke and Stella Hunter brings so much to the story by bringing Ryot and Myla to life.
