It was a hell of a trick...'

USA TODAY and Amazon two million copy best-selling author Blake Banner is at his best in this mystifying crime series!

Sue Benedict wasn’t giving out treats, so she got the trick. It was a hell of a trick.

She was raped and murdered in her apartment after attending a Halloween party with a bunch of art students. The killer did not use a condom or gloves, the CSI team got a perfect DNA profile and two perfect thumbprints from her throat, a witness saw her admit the killer to her apartment at 2:30 AM that night. It should have been a slam dunk. The only problem was, the DNA profile and the thumb prints didn’t match anyone on CODIS or IAFIS, or anyone at the party.

The killer, who made no effort to hide his identity, had vanished without a trace–just like the one witness who might actually have known what happened that night. And 12 years later the case is as cold as Sue Benedict, and the icy December wind coming in off the East River. So cold in fact that Detective Dehan of the NYPD thinks this may be the one case she and her partner, Detective Stone, will never crack.

A hell of a trick.

Excellent Procedural Series!!!!

I’m a huge fan of Blake Banner’s Dead. Cold Mystery Series. Seriously, if you like procedurals and haven’t tried this series it’s worth taking a chance on.
This is book #14, All of the books are stand alone however I would suggest listening to book 1 first for background on how the two protagonists began working together. Banner’s use of sarcasm and Adam Grupper’s Spot On delivery is fantastic. I really enjoy listening to Grupper, he adds depth to the characters that I think would be lacking without him.
This book is a wonderful procedural. It’s a 12 year old cold case. A woman had been murdered following a Halloween party in a basement where she took art classes. From the egotistical instructor to his best friend who is equally self centered and both vying for her sexual attention. There were a few other men who were at the party, the victim was a very attractive woman but they seem inconsequential. Those men were only given a cursory glance and then the police were stumped. That is until Detectives Stone and Dehan of the Cold Case Division of the NYPD begin their investigation.
This one is a real who done it with a surprise ending. Most of the books in this series have a WOW ending that you rarely see coming.
This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.
