Publisher's summary

Kaine Reynolds wants nothing more than solitude. After an unthinkable tragedy destroys his family, he's cut off all ties to his former life, so he can battle his grief the only way he knows how. Alone. So when Piper Campbell knocks on his door, rambling on about being his new neighbor, he slams the door in her face.

But Kaine's gruff demeanor doesn't scare her. She's set on living in Montana and starting over after a terrible divorce. And she wouldn't mind having a fling to chase away the pain of her husband's betrayal. Her handsome, albeit rude, neighbor is the perfect candidate.

Yet what neither of them suspect is that their no-strings affair will result in the surprise of Piper's lifetime - and Kaine's worst fear.

Struggled with narration

While not quite as good the Jamison Valley Series - I really enjoyed the first three books in the Lark Cove Series. I like the stories, the characters and the continuity. Overall, the books are very entertaining. This being said, I think the narration on the first two (Tattered and Timid) was a great deal better than this one. This book changed narrators and while the male narrator - Teddy Hamilton is fine - I had a hard time listening to Jillian Macie. Her voice is nasally and she is overly dramatic. Narrators should read the way they would talk if in a conversation - not with extra inflection or accentuation. She made Piper and Thea sound like a couple of Valley Girls. Unfortunately, Macie narrates the last book in the series as well and she is just annoying enough that I'll have to read it instead of listen.

Good story

Jillian Macie a narrator, somehow doesn’t have the right voice for this type of story. I really missed the previous lady narrator. The male narrator in the story, Teddy Hamilton, is excellent.
I love the story couldn’t stop listening!
Except, I hate all the foul language! Especially so much usage of the f word! And the author goes overboard with the sex. Overall would be 5 stars
w/o so much of either.

tragic

I love this story. it was sweet romantic and I love how Davney's other stories and incorporated into her other stories. like Clifton Forge ( tin gyspys). I will have to say the narrator makes a story. Teddy Hamilton is my all time favorite as is Maxine Mitchel. the female narrator in this story was so bad I'm not sure I can listen to #4 in this series.

Struggled BIGTIME to finish!

After listening to " Tattered," (Book 1 in this series) and absolutely LOVING it, Book 2 was a bit of a letdown character and chemistry-wise, but it did improve some in the second half or so of the book.
"Tragic" was just that for me, and I could barely get through it, largely due to the female narrator's voice. I am sure she has her niche in the audio world, but for me, this is NOT that niche. She sounds like a 14 year old, and that alone was tough, but trying to listen to a steamy, intimate scene with that voice was just PAINFUL and not very believable OR sexy.. (Teddy Hamilton is always good). The story had a lot of potential, but the narration killed it for me. I'd like to move forward with the next book, but I see that Ms. Macie also narrates that one, so it's not going to happen.

Struggled with narration

This is a good continuation to the series but the female narration takes away from this story, it took me longer than it would normally take and I almost gave up but the storyline is decent and Teddy Hamilton is awesome but I feel like Jillian Macie did more of the narration than he did.

great story!

I love this series and was excited for this book. I really enjoyed probably the first 3/4 of it but the last part kind of dragged for me. Still a great listen and I look forward to more by this author!

Series Addict

The female narration was distracting. The voice sounded too young for the charecter. More story, less soft porn and "F" bombs.

Tragic! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ plus

The whole time I had been on suspended; I made assumption…
The author is so talented. Thank you for keeping wondering throughout the story!

Just ok

The first two books in this series were better. This one started strong, but ended rambling and cringey. The male narrator was good, but the female narrator didn’t match the character to me.

Beautiful!

I almost didn’t finish listening because the new female narrator just wasn’t working for me, but I pushed through and the story hooked me. This is an absolutely beautiful tale of love, loss, grief and forgiveness. Cain locked himself away from the world for reasons he kept hidden from everyone, until the beautiful, kind and also healing Piper moved in next door to his mountain hideaway and worked her way through his walls. As the story unfolds you fall more in love with both of these characters (and bonus, I never found myself calling the heroine ridiculous, as so often happens in these types of stories). I highly recommend giving this audiobook a listen and maybe pushing through any initial annoyance with the new narrator. You won’t regret it.
