The very last thing U.S. Marshal Eoghan Sapphire wants is a new partnership. Worse yet, the transfer from Lexington, Kentucky is a civilian. That means it’ll be Eoghan’s responsibility to break him into the I.S.R. and the unique way their particular U.S. Marshals Service unit operates. He decides being a jerk to him and keeping him at arm’s length just might be the way to handle things…until he meets him.
Aristotle Brown isn’t like anyone Eoghan’s ever known before. He’s polite, willing to learn, and most of all, devastatingly handsome. Eoghan’s actually happy they’re thrown into a dangerous situation with a WITSEC protectee the first day his brand-new partner is on the job. Dealing with this particular man will let Eoghan know what Ari Brown’s made of. Will he break under pressure?
Dealing with humans is standard everyday stuff in the U.S. Marshals Service but other non-human species like shifters, other paranormals, and aliens from distant star systems…well, that’s where things promise to get downright interesting. Their second day on the job is no different. And he’s not prepared for Ari’s cool-headed composure when he comes face to face with an example of everything the I.S.R. deals with every day.
To top it all off, the marshal sent to back the two men up when things get dicey in Griffith Park isn’t as reliable as Eoghan had hoped. The impulses of the guy nearly get them all killed but fortunately, Ari performs like a dream, helping extract everyone when things go from bad to worse. Eoghan is sure of a couple of things…acting as this man’s training officer isn’t going to be such a struggle after all, and keeping his hands off him is going to be the hardest part about this assignment.

... While deciding on how I wanted U.S. Marshals I.S.R. (Interspecies Response) narrated, I was listening to a few dual narrations and liked the concept which I hadn't done in any past books. The problem was the way the two characters traded off, chapter by chapter. I know a lot of listeners love it but to me, that felt choppy. But, when I met Kevin Earlywine and Declan Winters at GRL last year, I suddenly knew what I wanted to do.
In this series, one narrator will voice a character throughout the whole book in his point of view until the end when the other character and narrator will jump in. The next book will alternate, narrated in the other character's point of view until the end and so on. I thought it might be different and fun for my readers.
I'd now like to introduce you to my narrator partners in this endeavour. Kevin Earlywine will be telling Tooth and Nail as Eoghan Sapphire, and Declan Winters will be joining him in Chapter Twenty-One as Aristotle Brown. ...

📖 Story comment: Good pace, likeable characters, interesting and entertaining story.
I was delightfully entertained with this new spin on a U.S. Marshals team investigating all things alien. There's a lot going on, so the pace is good, and there are some rather amusing scenes reminiscent of the "Men in Black" type of humor.
🎧 Narrator comment: Despite Kevin Earlywine's significant audio catalog, he's a "new to me" narrator and I enjoyed his performance of Tooth and Nail, he has good cadence, inflections and intonations, a good variety of character voices, and his performance bought the characters to life. I did nudge the speed up to 1.1x (which I hate doing) as I found the 1.0 speed just a little slow for the constant action and "on the go" feel of the story.
Overall an entertaining story and a good performance - I look forward to the rest of the series!
