I'm a Silence fan.

Another good story from Eric Carter. Excellent. I think Silence Jones deserves to get lucky now and then. Poor guy.

Silence at a much bigger scale and action

Eric Carter and Gary Bennett continue to bring their deep writing and superb narration to the Silence Jones series of action thrillers to new heights. In their latest edition of the series, “Tight-Lipped”, book three in the series, pivots some from the normal paths and gives us a view of Silence Jones we have not seen previously. The story is more complex, and the scope of the missions are on a much bigger scale. I find that Mr. Carter’s writing is engaging and has a way of keeping the action and thrills coming without giving away too much until the reveal. I often found myself trying to guess what was coming next, as with many thrillers, but found myself frequently in the wrong. For me, that is what makes for a story a great story. Mr. Bennett, the audiobook’s narrator did a wonderful job and I often cringed at the gruff and gravelly voice needed for the main character due to a previous injury. Thankfully, Silence Jones does not talk more than a few words when he does so the narrator does not have to become hoarse. If you like action thrillers, I think you will find this series will whet your appetite and scratch that hard to reach itch, pick it up and give it a listen. I have been enjoying this team’s efforts and the series itself thus far and I look forward to the next one when it is available.

Once again, we are dropped into a world where covert agencies do the work that our government is unable or unwilling to perform. This secretive group is like a modern-day Robin Hood where they often dole out justice to those who may get away with crimes via our traditional courts. Silence Jones is one of the low rungs on this mysterious corporate ladder, but he is the man that gets things done. This story does not diverge much from the previous activities, but here Mr. Jones has a side kick most of the time. As I said earlier, this story additionally is on a much grander scale than the previous ones. More travel, more action, and more thrills, which is never a bad thing. We are even shown some additional interaction with a few three-letter agencies which may or may not assist Mr. Jones.

The author did a good job of providing some background details so that each progression in the series we begin to better understand who Silence Jones is. I would have liked even more, but I assume this will come in future books. I also wanted to have a bit more from his beloved Cici in this book, but I feel that our main character was tore a bit when it comes to relationships; you will have to listen to know why. It is always good to see how Silence and Mrs. Enfield interact and her ability to keep Jones inline while also getting to know him more during each interaction. I guess one really cares for some of these characters when all you want is more information about them and their background details, I guess this is a good reason to keep listening to the series as well.

Turning to the audiobook’s narration, I know I have said it before, but Gary Bennett is one of my favorite narrators. He is now a veteran in this role having over one hundred audiobooks narrated on Audible, at the time of this review. Silence Jones and The Dragon Mage have been some of my favorite series he has narrated, and I also enjoyed his work on Cunning Devil. What I like most is that Mr. Bennett is not stereotyped into a given character, he is able to transform his voice into nearly anyone and that is what makes listening to his works so much fun. In this audiobook, the narration was done professionally. I do not recall any specific audio artifacts or other issues while listening.

For parents and younger listeners, this series contains elements of graphic violence, sex, drugs, noir style writing, and a few uses of profanity. I would recommend this audiobook, and the series, to be enjoyed by mature listeners who are not easily offended by this type of content. It is by no means over the top or outside the genre, but I do like to make my readers aware of this type of content.

In summary, who does not like a great action thriller? This one has it all, but it also tells a great tale, has dimensional characters, and is told on a big screen scale. The narration is solid, the writing is entertaining, and the stories are overall believable. The series is well worth the listen and I look forward to future audiobooks in the series.

The Best Silence Book Yet!

I sat down, having read the other books in this series - understanding what I was getting myself into and I was still blown away. Somehow Carter has made an already interesting and unique character even more.

Tight-Lipped, book three in the Silence Jones series starts off with the end of one of Silence's missions. He's quickly thrown into another mission and this time it's high-intensity and deals with other parts of the government. The woman that he has to meet up with and help is skeptical and especially so of the shadowy government types. I liked their interactions a lot and the bond and the trust that was developed over the length of the book really made Silence even more likable. He's still an antihero for sure - there was even a line later in the book that cracked me up where he mentioned how he's one of the good assassins not one of the bad ones (purposefully messing it up as to not give away the scene).

Also, this being a multi-state and multi-person mission made this one really interesting and one that was damn hard to put down. Add in the great narration by Gary Bennett and it was easily one of the best in the series on top of being a great thriller from start to finish. In the book description he says "hold on tight" and that's true. This one was a jet-setting mystery that I couldn't put down that went from 0-100 and kept it near 100 throughout.

Tight Lipped

Silence Jones is a great assassin character. His gravel choked voice scares people nearly to death. This book was terrific! A platoon of men who were part of a secret mission are turning up dead. Silence has to silence the killer. Gary Bennett was a fantastic narrator. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

The Man with The Voice!

Silence Jones is sent to stop a ruthless killer who is traveling around the country killing surviving participants of a training disaster from years earlier. Jones must wade his way through the deceptions only to discover how intense and involved the cover-up has been. No one is safe, Jones always completes his mission.

The author, Erik Carter delivers yet another captivating Silence Jones book. Creatively written, the plot is complex and carefully constructed to deliver an action-packed story with plot twists that will leave the listener mesmerized. The narrator, Gary Bennett provides a powerful performance providing not only unique voices but consistent voices of characters that move from book to book. His enunciation is smooth and clear. His performance reflects each of the character's personalities. His cadence was steady.

This is a riveting series, although each book can be read as a stand-alone book. The performance of the narrator pushes the book over the five-star ranking. Therefore, this book will receive the Audiobook Reviewer’s Choice Award. A prestigious award for those books that rate a higher than the standard five-star review. Congratulations go to the author and Gary Bennett.

Another Winner

Silence has very quickly become my favorite lead character. I was not sure if the development would keep him fresh but it has.

Gary Bennet's command of tones and connection as the narrator with the character and the author truly makes this a series I will support for a long time.

definitely recommend

Wow!

Another fast paced story in this series! I enjoyed all the characters created for this story. The first and second as well as the mentions. This one stumped me good! As everything started coming out I realized there are a lo of twist that make it hard. I did listen to this on audio and this one is narrated by Gary Bennett. He is doing the series which is nice. He does an impressive job.

Better than Book #2

This one was better than last, but still has room for improvement. I’ve purchased #4 and we’ll see how it goes. The main character has soooo much potential. The narrator is in my top 5. Holds the story together. If not for the main character and narrator I would probably move on, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that book #4 is at least a 4-Star.
