"I am a presidential history buff or a nut, as my wife might say. I love reading about bygone times of Grover Cleveland, Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, and my favorite president of all is Theodore Roosevelt. Why Roosevelt you might ask. Well, to try and keep it simple, he was real - what you saw is what you got. I identify with him in a lot of ways. Allow me to explain. He was a big game hunter, yet he formed sanctuaries and parks for preservation. I can see that I don’t hunt personally but have friends that do and I don’t condemn them for it. I love animals and yet I would kill one if it meant my family was going to starve. He left office as secretary of the navy to join a fight against Spain. No one would ever do that, especially in our society today.

Roosevelt was a cowboy, a boxer, a politician, a war hero, a father, a devoted husband, and most of all, a real human being. I hope you will listen to this book in his own words and get to know one of America's presidents, and I hope that you will come to appreciate him as much as I have." (Tim Simpson, 2019)

Honestly not entirely sure what other reviewers were listening to but I have listened to this book more than once and found it to be a great book. Each time I listened I found out more and more about my favorite president. The narrator even makes you feel as though it could be Roosevelt himself telling his story. Of course you can't please everyone but I thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely listen to it again and again.

I have no complaints.

the book is a great insight into TR
but there is issues with the narrator and the quality of the recording in some parts of the book.

Great wisdom of TR

I'd like to start off by saying this wasn't terrible, but this definitely could have been better. I love the gentleman who is readings voice because it seems like your grandfather is reading you a story, but that was also one of the downfalls. His voice is very monotone and there is no dramatization in it. There seems to several breaks where he loses his place while turning the pages which you can actually hear turning. There are also several skips in the early chapters or they are pieces that were spliced in badly. It's a good listen if you're a Roosevelt fan like I but I will also be buying the book to re-read on my own.

This is so good and the only reason why I give it two stars is because since I paid for this recording, I expect that there would be no audio troubles like the track skipping. Unfortunately, this narration is susceptible to this problem and it is so irritating; especially when you are so engrossed by the story.

Great Story & Narrator but Crappy Recording

One of the worst, most amateurish productions I have ever heard. George Pettingell is one of the worst narrators I have ever heard, and his whittling country-hick tone ruined this entire experience. Anyone familiar with Roosevelt would have selected a much stronger and articulate speaker to represent the voice of the president. Pettingell is a terrible speaker, reader, and should retire from the business and scorn all thoughts who gave him any inkling he would prosper in such an industry while providing refunds for all the customers he swindled with this hack production. He, his family, his descendants, and apologists should be ashamed for not shutting his mouth sooner. George Pettingell is the absolute worst. He should be ashamed.

Terrible; Avoid at all costs; George Pettingell is AWFUL
