Publisher's Summary

Never in a million years did I think it would be Ian Parker who saved me....

I know I should stay away from Ian Parker.

But when my drug-dealing stepdad kicks me out, I have nowhere to go. Squatting in an abandoned shed on Ian’s grandpa’s farm seems like as good a plan as any.

Ian finds me there, of course, and he insists on me moving into his spare room. I should say no, but the appeal of a roof and a warm bed is too much. Not to mention Ian’s brown eyes and strong arms.

We’re nothing alike, but the spark between us is undeniable. My life is finally looking up.

Until I call the cops on my stepdad and unintentionally get my pregnant mom arrested.

Now I have to sacrifice my dreams to take care of my mom’s baby. She’s the only family I have left. Meanwhile, Ian’s band is taking off; his dreams are coming true.

Ian is my one chance at love. I just hope he doesn’t become the one chance that got away.

Toilet Paper Falls from the top!

I really enjoy Brittany Cherry‘s books. They are filled with angst and emotional roller coasters. This book was no different, but unlike the last audiobook I reviewed for her (Southern Storms), I really enjoyed the narrators in this one. (For the record, I loved the story of Southern Storms, but thought the narrators ruined the audiobook book).

Ian and Hazel’s relationship from hating to loving each other has been done before, but this one seemed a little more genuine because of the background of both characters. They were easy to like, especially Ian. Your heart feels badly for Hazel so many times in this story, and you know that once their relationship starts to get stronger, something is going to destroy it. What I really loved about this book was the friends who supported both Ian and Hazel. It was genuinely a sweet love story.

By the way, toilet paper fall from the top. 🤣

What a gem!

I was not familiar with this author, but the synopsis intrigued me and the title was availabe as a Kindle Unlimited Read and Listen Free. I expected a cookie cutter slow burn romance or an enemies to lovers romance, but the story far surpassed that. The story takes you on a rollercoaster of emotion without being too heavy-handed with the angst (which I appreciate) and manufactured conflict.

The narration performances were stellar. Stella Bloom is so talented, and she has narrated so many books that her familiar voice makes it easy to get lost in the story. I'm not sure that I've heard Rock Engle before but I'll definitely keep an eye out for his name from now on.

All About the Narrators

So, this is the first book by this author that I didn't like. The romance felt forced and nonexistent for me. I just never connected with the characters and get emotionally invested in either of their stories like this author is normally capable of doing.

I will say that Stella Bloom and Rock Engle were great. Stella Bloom always has this really sweet voice. Its nice like when you meet someone and automatically know you want to become friends with them. Its warm and welcoming and I loved her. Rock Engle also had a voice that I was really feeling for a male heroine. If for no other reason, definitely listen for the narrators alone. You won't be disappointed.

Swoon....

3 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️
I’ve read other books by Brittainy and enjoyed them. The reason I gave The Wreckage Of Us a three star is because it was just missing something.
I like Brittainy writing style. I even love the slow burn, however this book is a little to PG. I feel if you’re going to write a slow burn book then you need to give your readers a explosive hot scene and Brittainy dropped the ball on that. This wasn’t anything like her previous books. The storyline was good, but I found myself getting bored and actually skimming through chapters.

Ian and Hazel love for each other was beautiful and there were definitely many swooning moments. Ian is every girls dream....Hot Rockstar, with tattoos and a southern gentleman. Who wouldn’t love that! 🥰

I know Hazel was beyond her years, but I found the situation she put herself in to be a like unrealistic. You really don’t see many girls her age willingly to take on that big of responsibility. I did love her sarcastic mouth and I even laughed out loud several times.
Overall the story was okay, it dragged on a little to long and I wished the chemistry would’ve been more off the charts hot between Ian and Hazel. It just felt like the characters were lacking something. Maybe it was the nonexistent sex scenes. I don’t know. 🤷🏼‍♀️
I will definitely continue reading Brittainy books, just this book really didn’t do it for me.

Audiobook: Stella Bloom performance is always a five-star. She truly brings life to her character. I’ve only listened to a couple other books with Rock Engle as the narrator and I enjoy his voice, However I do not think he was a good fit for this book. He sounded to old for Ian’s character and his women’s voice needs major work. lol

Confession : I love you until forever

A beautifully emotional story. Ian and Hazel was put through the wringer, especially Hazel. But despite the pain, anger and heartache, they also had joy, happiness and Love. Ian's friends were awesome and so was Leah. I adore Big Paw and Holly, this book was packed full of all the things I love about a small town. I loved how all the issues were worked out without any unnecessary misunderstanding and there wasn't any cliche trope. I'll be checking out more of this Author's work and I hope to see more of this writing style. The narration was very enjoyable, both Stella Bloom and Rock Engle did a wonderful job

All the stars and hearts!

I honestly can not think of one single thing to dislike about this book. So much real life experiences throughout the story, perfect character development, true feelings and love. Narration was great. You could really feel the emotions at times. Ups and downs of love, family and happiness 😊 This author nailed it.

it was okay

I struggle so much with the male narrator and I know that's just a personal thing. I would have probably given the female narrator a 4 star. The book had some good parts but it felt like it was more of a YA novel. It was okay just maybe not for me. So many different things going on at one time.

UGH…

This listen was painful because the narrators made it so. The story was just OK but the melodramatic narration made this story sound stupid. The sample narration didn’t seem that bad. Suggest you spend your $$ on the Kindle version if you really want to read thus sophomoric story. The voices in your head will sound better. 😁

Ok story line but absolutely horrible actors

Story line is ok a little drawn out and repetitive. However, the actors were horrible and in my opinion completely ruined the book for me. Ian is supposed to be this sexy heartthrob but the actor sounds like an middle aged person with zero sex appeal. Very disappointed because Brittany C Is one of my favorite authors, but this book was not up to the standards I think

Beautiful small town romance.

Beautiful, emotional slow burn small town romance. I liked the pop star twist to this story, and that it didn’t become the sole focus of the story.
Hazel is the kind of heroine you can relate to and Ian is just-WOW! The major a-hole jerk that really makes your heart swoon.
For me, it was Big Paw who stole the show. What a fantastic character, under all the grumpiness lies a heart of gold.
This was a super slow burn, friends to lovers that will own your heart.
