Publisher's Summary

Dante and Blays have forced Gladdic from the Collen Basin. But the victory might be only the first battle in a much larger war. With the land on the brink of starvation and politically fractured, Dante and Blays scramble to secure Collen's food, borders, and allies. Before their work is done, rumor arrives from Mallon. The enemy is mustering for another attack.

Even if Collen can weather the coming storm, there's no guarantee their independence will last out the year. During a border raid, Dante learns Gladdic has fled to the shadowy realm of Tanar Atain, home of the Andrac.

And the secrets Gladdic returns with could tip the balance of power forever.

Absolute Genius

Forget Batman and Robin, this is the dynamic Duo! The writing is as good as it gets. Unbelievable evolving story going back to the first cycle. Should be a series of movies but would be a larger undertaking than LOTR. Author is one of my favorites. Reynolds is a superb narrator. I've even started buying anything he lends his voice to. He makes these fantastic books come totally alive.

I'd put these books right up there with LOTR, Game of Thrones, and King's epic Dark Tower series, and I'm not sure I wouldn't put these at the front of the pack. Amazing!

Always love the "Cycles of"

I used to not be a fan of audio books, I'd rather have a hard copy in my hands - feverishly turning the pages... however, the duo that narrator and author make has me absolutely hooked on this series, as I was hooked on the previous. Job well done, both of you. I am so glad that I saved my credits for this and was very excited by the authors note at the end.

One of the best series

I stumbled upon Dante and Blays out of sheer luck 2 years ago, I've listened to the cycle of arawn many times, along with the first two books in the cycle of galand series, it's a exciting story with great twist and turns that keeps you on the edge of your sit waiting for what happens next. I can't wait for the fourth book and continue this adventure. Going back for another listen now!!

amazing

these books are the best fantasy ive read in years. characters, story, world building and everything else is incredible, not to mention the relationship and rapport between Dante and blays is some of the best diologue I've read .

new characters to join the Dante squad show promise to be unique and interesting as well and the scale and stakes that Dante and blays are fighting for/against are gaining momentum at incredible speed to a climax that brings their saga to a whole new tier of imortance.
must read 100%

just yes

the only thing I didn't like was when the book ended. this is the only series that I've ever read (or listened to) that has captivated me to a point where I forget that I'm not in that world. when something grabs my attention IRL, it's as if I'm being forcibly snapped back to reality. can I do 6/5? I'm gonna say 6/5. cannot wait until the next one. felt palpable despair knowing I was at the end of the book.

Awesome

One of my favorite series. I'm very excited for the continuation. The cynical and sarcastic banter between Dante and Blaze relates so similar to relations I have! So well done! Can't wait for the next!

This series and this author are hidden gems.

The first cycle takes roughly half a book to get going, but its well worth the wait as soon as the relationship between Andre and Blaze (disregard the names for now, they grow on you) forms. From there on out it is a fantastic series that continually blurs the lines between good and evil. This second series does not fall short by any means, and helps build a world that is truly fascinating. It feels very much like buddycop fantasy, much in the same way as Scott Lynch or Michael Sullivan create with their series. Just the right amount of brutality, without going so far overboard that it feels like he's trying too hard to be edgy.

The end is Nigh or not

My absolute favorite story and narator. Occasional profanity used. that said, used to convey emotions and feelings that only profanity can deliver. The story maintains pace with exciting peaks and lulls allowing you to get your breath before the next time our heroes have to leg it from s9me bestie or powerful socerer. Also, very whitty.

It is just so frustratingly addictive.

I get to a point where I want to press stop and just give up, because it is SO formulaic, but then something happens and I just HAVE to know how it is going to end. I am now forced to finish the series even though I know that Dante will find a puzzle he will have to solve, he will get embroiled in someone else's problem and Blaze will make him solve it. They will solve the puzzle and in the process find and answer to their own problem.

It is still worth a listen as the performance is great and so is the story.

Frustrating turn for the worst

Would you try another book written by Edward W. Robertson or narrated by Tim Gerard Reynolds?

Tim Gerard Reynolds is a fantastic, characterful narrator. I would absolutely listen to another book narrated by him.

I am really disappointed by the failure in Robertson’s storytelling, however, and I can’t listen to the series anymore, which is very frustrating.

The character development seems to be going backwards - strong characters are becoming weak and impotent. The idiocy of the main characters (somewhat charming in earlier books) just grows and grows, and characters you’ve grown to like constantly betray their established nature and take actions that go against everything they’ve done up until this point.

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The world is absolutely great, and the previous books in the series were fantastic.

Any additional comments?

I have rarely been so frustrated while listening to a book.
Robertson has diligently crafted a compelling world, and characters you care about over the course of the previous books.
In this entry he proceeds to turn potent, world-altering characters into snivelling wimps.
They give up at every opportunity, and by 10 hours in are almost unrecognisable from the principled, determined characters they once were. Many books have such narratives, of course, and character arcs can successfully change and twist with great results.
But there needs to be a motivation, and cohesive reason why.
Robertson unfortunately fails to provide one, and this book becomes a disappointing mire of frustration.

Save yourself, and the story so far, by skipping this book.

audible described this as a TRILOGY

audible described this as a TRILOGY. now I find a fourth book in the series and the promise of more after that. this kind of misdirection is reprehensible

ever evolving

the story just gets better and better as a series and this book is just fantastic. The evolution of the world and all the contributing societies gel so well to unravel a definite brilliant ending to the series, but somewhat predictable.
