A Masterpiece
It is understandable that this audiobook should have both passionate positive and negative reviews: it offers a genial new interpretation of biology, evolution and history, with ramifications into medicine and psychology.
An earlier reviewer remarked the ideas contained here would never be published in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Indeed! - these journals do not publish personal interpretaions. A book (or in this case, an audiobook), and not a peer-reviewed journal, is the perfect medium for this kind of work.
I am an M.D., I was marveled by this work and highly recomend it to everyone.

This book is EXCELLENT!
Since the negative review writers here boast that they have their PhDs, I will mention my creds. I have a BS in Chemistry and an MS in Public Health. I'll get my PhD in a science, which in my view is not a huge deal!
Bruce Lipton is amazing to me. This book really explains why the medical establishment has no idea how so many of our illnesses are caused. If you don't know what I am talking about, just sign up for some Anatomy & Physiology classes at your local community college. Take Physiology, Pathophysiology, and Microbiology. Discover that professors all around the country, including medical school professors, are teaching this dis-ease and that dis-ease, but when they address the cause, they teach "We don't know what turns the genes on!" Bruce Lipton offers the brilliant idea that the internal environment and our perceptions (stress, fear, worry, etc.) are what determines what genes are turned on, and thus what proteins are made, which determines function. His idea that the cell membrane is more analogous to the brain and the nucleus is more analogous to the gonads is truly a ingenius paradigm shift! A brilliant read! Loved every word of it!

Avoid at all costs
As a PhD myself and working as I am in the field of cell biology, I have to say that this is the worst book I've ever finished. And I did so only to try to measure how far the author would go with the nonsense.
He misleads the readers (listeners) with a few scientific facts, overextending outrageously the implications and presenting them in a way that makes it as if he were in a noble crusade against the evil establishment of science.
He shows an alarming lack of understanding in the biology of the cell membrane, signal transduction and epigenetics while presenting them as if he were his sole discoverer. These are in fact current topics of research as any serious scientist in these fields can attest, and are not taboo or dogmatic truths as he seems to think.
The conclusions he draws from his (very) basic experiments and "revolutionary" thinking are enough to make any real scientist feel dirty just by reading them. No peer reviewed journal would ever publish something like this, and not because they are part of a conspiracy, but because it makes no sense and can't stand up to scrutiny.
It's as if in trying to explain gravitation he comes to the theory that it's invisible goblins that pull things downwards, and then as proof he drops a stone and says "see, those were the invisible goblins in action", yes the facts match the theory, but that doesn't make it correct.
There is no need for far fetched theories, all is needed is careful honest research in this complex field, but it seems that's something Mr. Lipton can't be bothered with.

Wonderful
I really enjoyed this Audiobook. I'm a nurse and I've always wondered why some people get sick and others don't. Some eat well, excercise and do all that stuff right and have a heart attack while smokers and junk food eaters do fine. Of course, that's not always the case but this book explains why it can be the case. Shows how powerful stress is in our bodies and how our fear based society contributes to so much disease.
I definitely see why the pharmaceutical companies wouldn't like this book as it shows your belief in medicine is more important than the medicine itself. As a nurse I've witnessed this first hand.
This is a wonderful book and recommend it to anyone with an open mind.

Highly worthwhile, excruciating delivery.
Let me first state a strong endorsement for the scientific content "Wisdom" features. There is much to discover and explore here and I'm looking forward pursuing a number of exciting hypothesis and research efforts of which I'd been heretofore unaware. Sprinkled throughout the talk are an abundance of genuinely worthwhile concepts and lines of inquiry I found highly compelling.
The downside is the author/speaker's style, which sounds like nothing so much as a 7th graders unrelenting run-on sentence, the totality of which is intended as his first blackboard presentation in science class. I winced and groaned as the good doctor droned from unrestrained, apparently totally unrecognized self-congratulations to comically absurd total non-sequiturs presented as stunning revelations. all elocuted with a nails-on-chalkboard style of a breathless dillettante with a limited vocabulary practiced only on a hapless younger sibling immobilized by two broken legs, arms, and a full body cast. I shuddered my way through thanks to those frequent nuggets I found so compelling and uncurled from my fetal position with a long list of hard-won topics for study. I must say I found myself, at the last, liking this man for his sheer enthusiasm but hoping for a voice coach next time. Please.

Pseudoscience junk
This is not a real science book at all.
I've listened to the first hour and so far he has:
*equated Newtonian physics with materialism (I'm sure Newton would have been surprised);
*referred multiple times to the theory that genes determine development as a "belief system", and
*set up a straw man by conflating this with the view that one's whole life is determined at conception,
*cited the fact that stem cells develop differently depending on the conditions around them as evidence against it,
*claimed without justification that a prediction of this theory is that organisms with more complex (to human eyes) phenotypes should have physically larger genomes, which of course is not what is observed because it isn't true;
*suggested that the human genome (a word he pronounces incorrectly) project was done solely for the profits of venture capitalists, which I can only assume is an attempt to smear by association the whole of genetics and materialism, perhaps so that later he can say "but my brilliant revolutionary theories are ignored by the orthodoxy because they are in the pockets of...";
and he hasn't even started to outline his main thesis yet!
I don't intend to listen to the other 7 hours.

Too much sermonizing, too little science
When I bought this book, I was looking for some passionate scientific news. Well, I got the passionate - Liptons talks quite emphatically about all the new revelations he has experienced in science and his way of relating that science to his inner life. Now, I love stuff like this, but it was way too much fluff or basic high school biology and too little story about the really cool, cutting edge stuff he touches. He speaks like every little thing he is saying is a revelation, which is quite annoying to me, as someone well versed in science. I'm amazed I got through this book. There were two scientific tidbits that were revelations and that I quite enjoyed learning, but man, what a lot to slog through to get those!
I wish the author the best in his science and his talks, but definitely the style was not for me!

Intriguing ideas, enthusiastic speaker
If what Lipton says is true, and one should be able to check the facts, his ideas here are intriguing and they could possibly change the way you look at life. I am one-third the way through the book and only stopped because I had to go to work--I find it very compelling listening. Some of his ideas thus far resonate with spiritual ideas of William James, another scientist who valued spiritual experience. Other ideas remind me of what little I know about quantum science and how it also supports a spiritual interpretation of the universe, at least somewhat. The first ten minutes of the book grabbed me and would not let go...

Thought provoking
This not a book for the gullible but it is thought provoking. I read it as one persons honest attempt to explain reality and the human condition. Orthodox scientific believers will be offended by it's leaps of imagination. If you believe that the search for truth can only be pursued within the bounds of our current scientific conventions you will be probably feel threatened. The scientific method is crucial in the search for answers about the nature of reality and the technology that enables us to look inside a living cell could not exist without it. But all the science in the world, past , present or future cannot address the fundamental questions without the power of the human imagination. This book deserves to be read.

Bruce Lipton:- The Wisdom of Selling Out
This book contains much that is interesting and true. However, the bits that are true are not interesting, and the bits that are interesting are not true. In fact, I want my money back!
We desperately need a re-enchanted holistic science to come from prominent scientists and the comparison to Carl Sagan or Stephen Hawking, led me to expect some genuine new insights into cell biology.
What you get however, is highly inaccurate high school biology, pop-psychology and physics, spiced with New Age talk about "Energies" and "Signals". Wherever it is possible to mis-represent, Lipton does it in spades.
For instance, a central thesis (and allegedly the reason Lipton gave up science) is that he could no longer preach the orthodoxy that "our genes control us", insisting instead that "the environment controls us".
This is nonsense! Neither genes, nor environment alone "control" us. Biology has always been about the complex INTERACTION of genes with environment! The phenotype is what results. Geneticists also routinely estimate the heritable genetic contribution to any given trait.
Lipton cites the work of John Cairns as proof that mutations are "guided", thus "proving" that Lamarck was right and Darwin wrong. This is nonsense on stilts! Cairns work shows Darwinian selection in action! Cairns demonstrates not that mutations are guided (Lamarck), but that mutation rates increase (throughout the genome), in times of stress.
Lipton's psychological theories, such as the passive "downloading" of parental beliefs are a mess of half baked pop-psychology. His physics too is dubious, morphing light absorbance and emission seamlessly into cellular perception of "mental energies".
So, what is his point? That belief is so powerful, it controls reality. Unfortunately, he also believes that we are undergoing the "6th mass extinction of the planet". Feel free to sue in advance for damages!
At £30 for 8hrs, this is money for old rope. Just don't buy it!

This is an insight into science at its peak
This is ground breaking science as a researcher I identify with his methods, too flexible for some who like to think of the world as flat or rigid, this book will give your ideology and world view a workout. Dont read it if you are rigid and do not understand that science is imagination and creativity. Einstein would visualize what it was like to travel on a sunbeam at speed of light and this book helps you visualize the life of the cell. If your veiw of science is not developed enough you will believe that we scientists just see the world as rigid laws and think we understand how everything works. Wake up to how scientists really think. Creatively, imaginatively and a little bit flawed. Dont believe everything but listen to his ideas and develop your own theories. My rating excellent. Graduate level thought brought to man in street.

More on how to control your cells
This is easy listening, the authors voice is so easy to listen to.
I have done basic anatomy and physiology, so can understand the structure of cells, and was able to follow the majority of this book. There were sections though, that went right over my head - physics! But that didn't bother me, I think I may have learned a thing or two, which is a good thing.
I do wish that the book went further into how to change "the tape" or your sub conscious, that was a bit of a let down. But ultimately I now understand that I control my cells, not my DNA.

Enchanting
I have listened to this three times now. I am not a scientist. Four decades ago I was compelled to take Biology, Physics and Chemistry at school. Teacher after teacher mercilessly hammered the point that these subjects were dull, lacking in creativity, imagination, insight and above all - no 'classical' experiment we copied ever replicated the 'correct' results. However much I wished to cheer for the trail-blazing scientists who featured in my History and Philosophy lessons, actual laboratory outcome after outcome was just so much garbage. Little wonder that for every scientist who sticks their head above the parapet and makes a statement, 600 rent-a-gobs can be hired to 'prove' otherwise. I don't pretend to understand most of what he says, but Bruce Lipton speaks with enthusiasm (real passion) and integrity about something that affects us all. I loved every minute of it. Indeed, at no time did it sound scripted, academic or authoritative (in a detrimental sense). We're told we each have trillions of cells. I would encourage everyone to hear what Bruce Lipton has to say about them.

Religious nonsense
I got this book thinking it would be a interesting tale of how our DNA has evolved over the millennia. What I found was a load of religious nonsense. Leaving me wondering why this book was in the non-fiction section in the first place?
Do not buy this book if you like science or evidence based facts.

Not science, utterly wrong. Mostly...
What disappointed you about The Wisdom of Your Cells?
The frequency of absolute rubbish, displays complete misunderstanding of wave nature and phenomena especially. also particle physics and reductionism in general is misrepresented. Deliberately misleading, misconstruing and misinterpreting.
What could Bruce H. Lipton have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Good science.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Bruce H. Lipton?
Only if it were a discussion between him and anyone else in the field of biochemistry or cellular anatomy.
Any additional comments?
Do not read unless you are impartial on the subject of religion, it's just a religious man trying to make bad science sound sciency enough to mislead people ignorant of what is being described.

very good
It always amazes me how people stuck in thought processes are unwilling to accept new information...similar to religion. The first reviewer demonstrates this perfectly.
Bruce Lipton was a cell biologist for 30 years and began to discover cell behaviour that couldn't be explained through existing notions of newtonian science. He was a medical professor who began feeling very unconfortable teaching his medical students information which he found to be flawed through his own studies and had to leave because of it. He is no madman with wild ideas based on nothing.
I found this book fantastic and really does begin to bridge the gap between science and spirituality. Would highly recommend along with 'the field' and 'the holographic universe'

Life changing information!
This book has really changed my life. The information, delivered in such an engaging way by Bruce Lipton himself, is science the way we should be receiving it. I highly recommend this to anyone wanting to expand and discover what every human really already feels inside.

Good narrator - Terrible science
Genuine science lovers would do well reading https://www.metabunk.org/debunked-bruce-lipton-and-the-biology-of-belief.t1003/ before embarking on this book.
Dr Lipton is a pseudo-scientist, who uses his excellent narrating skills trying to convince people of his opinions. As 'developmental biologist' he has little regard of evolution. You expect him to scream out 'intelligent design' after every sentence. He shows little understanding of physics, regarding atoms consisting of 'energy whirls' and comparing cell membranes to 'gated crystals like in CPU chips'. He writes books with titles like 'Cancer is curable NOW'!. He has been a speaker at the Institute of 'Noetic Sciences' - which says something.
What gets me is that 47 people rated him a mean of 94%! Dr Lipton, who is an excellent speaker, uses his skills to attract people that are obviously ignorant of true science and the intrinsic beauty it conveys. The immense body of scientific knowledge we have accumulated so far, far outranks Dr Lipton's 'new age' material.

what a sham...don't purchase
I searched on 'cellular biology ' and as this was the only result, I thought I would give it a go. how silly of me. this is a religiously or faith inspired sermonising of quasi science. from a dying school of thought around creation and intelligent science comes this truckload of waffle and hogwash. if you want something interesting and scientific.... don't purchase this book. move on.

Great ideas but repetitive and sometimes unclear
Loved the story and hypotheses in this book. Some information was kind of repetitive at times though. It's more like a talk show of one person that requires some editing rather than an audiobook.

In his groundbreaking book The Biology of Belief, Dr. Bruce Lipton outlined the evidence that our thoughts are just as important as our genes in controlling our health and evolution. As the emerging science of epigenetics shows, our beliefs and choices can control our biology down to a cellular level. According to Dr. Lipton, this startling scientific insight suggests a major evolutionary shift for the human species is on the horizon.
