WOUNDS OF THE HEART
When Ivy and Sora encounter a mortally wounded man, Sora uses its unique powers to heal him...and splits in two?! As Ivy and Druid bond over their unhappy pasts, Ivy learns that her new friend was also abandoned by his family thanks to his "useless" skill. But as Ivy knows, there's often more to people (and slimes) than meets the eye. Can Ivy and Sora help their new companion find the strength to forge ahead?

I love the next chapter of ivy’s story now. I used to only listen to my audio books in the car but I am so hooked that it’s following me everywhere!
The voice actress is phenomenal and really makes the story come alive. She gives personality to each individual character and the slimes/adondera voices really shine. I will happily listen to other series she has recorded.
10/10 would recommend to anyone who enjoys the cozy fantasy adventure genre.
Still amazing! Not just a car listen!

The thing is, there aren't a lot of dialog cues such as 'said' in this series. The author instead relies heavily on contextual cues and cadence of conversation for informing the reader who is speaking, which is easier to parse when reading and may simply be a function of Japanese novel writing. However, it doesn't seem like the narrator was properly directed on who is speaking, as a number of times she uses a voice that doesn't make sense for the sentence that is spoken or the information that is given.
At one point near the end, she even continues a character voice into a following bit of narration and switches halfway through the sentence. I would not have noticed this if I hadn't been reading and listening at the same time, which I'm guessing most audiobook enjoyers don't or can't do.
Overall, the audio book is barely acceptable. The audio direction is unfortunate and, honestly, possibly nonexistent. One can follow what is going on, but the mixing of dialog voices occasionally makes several characters sound confused or slightly out of character. The narrator's voice is nice and crisp, though it seems she has less variation for men's voices and has to recycle several. As a personal preference I dislike the emphasis she puts on "argh" or "ugh" but it's not terribly overblown, and could also be a directorial decision.
Good Book, Poorly Directed Narration
