Publisher's Summary

After the brutal homicide of a woman, the Oslo Police Force know exactly whom to call: brilliant and unorthodox police investigator Harry Hole. When he suspects a link with one of his cold cases, it's a race against time to catch the elusive killer.

There's a new killer on the streets.

A woman is found murdered after an Internet date. The marks left on her body show the police that they are dealing with a particularly vicious killer.

He's in your house.... He's in your room....

Under pressure from the media to find the murderer, the force know there's only one man for the job. But Harry Hole is reluctant to return to the place that almost took everything from him. Until he starts to suspect a connection between this killing and his one failed case.

He's out for blood....

When another victim is found, Harry realises he will need to put everything on the line if he's to finally catch the one who got away.

Great narrator

Narrator is great. Not Nesbo's best work but nice. Twist is a bit predictable. Love the atmosphere.

Better than ever

What made the experience of listening to The Thirst the most enjoyable?

Having waited a while for a new Jo Nesbo audiobook, I was not sure if it would be as good as previous books. I loved the detail, the imperfections and the humanity of the characters

What did you like best about this story?

I suppose its the underlying qualities. On the surface it is a thriller, but under it, its about people and what makes us human.

What about Sean Barrett’s performance did you like?

He is one of my favourite narrators. He combines a very relaxed and laconic approach with a sense of drama.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The young girl Marta

Any additional comments?

I have looked online and found out some info about the way Jo Nesbo writes and find him an inspiration as a writer, and find his books very believable

A bit too drawn out, but still a great listen.

I feel the overall story could have been more concise. This would have made it wonderfully thrilling and not just mediocre thrilling. However,Jo Nesbo has done it again and I still recommend this novel.

I had tears in my eyes in parts near the end, caused by knowing the history behind the characters.

Sean Barrett as wonderful as ever.

Dark side of the thirst.

What made the experience of listening to The Thirst the most enjoyable?

There are many twists and turns, as you would expect from a Jo Nesbo novel. they don't always work. In this Novel they do. There is an abundance of psychological investigation which keeps the reader stimulated, whether true or not is neither here nor there. As usual there the obligatory references to music and literature. Haruki Murakami gets a mention which is pleasing as he is also one author I most admire. Pink Floyd are given special treatment. For this alone the novel geserves five stars.

What did you like best about this story?

Everything. I listened in two sittings. It helps when a novel is basically based upon the entire work of British Rock band Pink Floyd.

What does Sean Barrett bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He is one of the best readers there is available. He is Harry!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

You are going to pay me for the tag line? Someone else can do their job.

Any additional comments?

Just listen. It will be the best Crime tnovel this year. Although the recent Philip kerr addition was very good.

Brilliant as normal

It makes me sad to know I am going to have to wait a long time for the next Jo Nesbo book. I've read/listened to all of the Jo Nesbo books and I am addicted. Sean Barrett is just the best narrator, I could listen to him all day every day, the characters portrayal is excellent. It hard to find something else to listen after this, but I do have other favourites.

Another edge of the seat novel.

Quite complex in its plot, but worthwhile. Lovely narration, as ever, by Sean Barrett.
I managed to fall in to one of Nesbo's traps, and was convinced of the guilt of one character - I do like his way of writing, and his characters are fun.

A good story but......

It's hard to say I liked this book, the story was excellent, it kept me guessing to the last chapter, but it was the narration that was not so great. Without giving the story line away this is a detective novel based in Norway, so how come all the characters sound like they come from Bradford or Leeds?
It spoils the experience (for me anyway). Other than that the book was great, the narration not so much.

He's back. Better than ever

If you could sum up The Thirst in three words, what would they be?

Gripping page turner

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Thirst?

Harry, always harry

What does Sean Barrett bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Sean Barrett is the consummate narrator. He could make a telephone directory sound interesting

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes and no, yes because it was riveting, no because I knew I'd miss Harry

Any additional comments?

When's the next one due

The very air had screams smeared on it

Fast moving and very entertaining, full of pop references and little tells, the most fun of the Harry Hole series. The characters are crisp and well presented and the plot is full of twists and surprises.
A good reliable read that is hard to put down, so do not start if you do not have the time to quench the thirst.

Cant believe i have to wait until July 2019 to find out what happens next!

Great story, keeps you guessing right the way through. My favourite HH book so far. The narrator is first class and just right for this genre of book. Cant wait for the next one in the series to be published! Recommended to readers, even if it it their first read in the Harry Hole series. You wont be disadvantaged by nit having read the others.

Nesbo Hole Classic

So worth the wait. Harry Hole fans will not be dissapointed and Sean Barrett is such a talented reader. Every character is well defined and his rendition of Nesbo's words brings every facet of this book to life. It's so easy to visualise everything which at times can be quite disturbing. Be prepared to find yourself stopped in your tracks engrossed in the narrative. Took me twice as long to do my housework last weekend as I found myself just sitting or standing - engrossed.

Good story, disappointing narration

The story was very good however the overall performance of it was disappointing. Most of the characters were indistinguishable from one another making it difficult to follow.

Has Jo Nesbo lost the plot

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Nothing really because I could not get into the book at all, I found the story line to be quite unsatisfactory and I guess like all serial writers formulaic , predictable.

What could Jo Nesbo have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I could not suspend my disbelief about vampires and blood drinking. I felt that this book lacked the suspense element of his previous books and just too long. Needed to be edited.

What didn’t you like about Sean Barrett’s performance?

It was the storyline more so than the narration.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Thirst?

Don't know just know the entire book needed to be seriously edited.

Best Jo Nesbo/Harry Hole/Sean Barrett collaboration yet

I've listened to the whole Harry Hole series and I love them all, but this is the best yet - Jo Nesbo keeps developing the characters and intricate story lines better each time. Sean Barrett IS Harry Hole, he has created the voice that portrays the man so brilliantly. Plus he voices a cast of thousands. Can't wait for the next one!

Another brilliant book by a brilliant author

Jo Nesbitt has written some brilliant books but this is brilliant brilliant! The story is so intriguing and when you think it is all over there's another three hours to go. Fantastic! If you haven't fallen in love with Harry by now (I named my dog Harry Hole!) then you will now and the ending had me shouting out in my car "no, no, no!" A must read. We

Another epic Harry storyline. Well worthwhile listening to - and a story I would happily re-visit.

The evolving life of Harry Hole.

Harry Hole

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Really enjoyed the twists and turns of this well written and performed story. Clever and unpredictable plot. Harry never disappoints. Loved the voice and drama that Sean Barrett gives to the text.
