Publisher's summary

Azerick thought he had finally found peace and purpose beyond seeking vengeance against those he held responsible by creating a school of learning, magic, and trades for the less fortunate. That dream came to an end when an assassin tried to murder him in his sleep. He knows that he will never be free and his friends and students will never be safe until he puts an end to the schemes and machinations of evil and power-hungry men.

No man and no army, not even a journey to the very bowels of the abyss will keep him from his vengeance.

Don't do it yourself

if you are an author and unhappy with your narrator please don't just decide you'll do it yourself. The author seems to have a speech impediment or is just bad at it. All of his s's slur.

Review

The best way I can describe this audiobook is bittersweet, very little happened in the first three hours of the audiobook it really started to pick up about five hours in which is a shame because they could’ve work more on developing the storyline. At one point I find myself skipping ahead which is never a good thing in an audiobook. It was a little bit jarring here in another narrator voice in the story. But I quickly got past it because Brock E. Deskins it wasn’t too bad I don’t know what happened to the original narrator which is a shame, but didn’t really take too much away from the story. In my opinion for me the first three hours of the book was somewhat of a little down but it does pick up in later chapters and gets better.

It's a good story but ruined by wheezing Narration

I have always liked the story, it never was amazing but I never found anything wrong with it and I have re-listened to this book series. I think any book worth re-listening (or re-reading) is a good book. So the Story for me is just under 4 stars. Like a 3.8.

The Narration. So the first narrator wasn't the best but never ruined the book for me. I don't know why the author decided to narrate his own book but he did so as a mixed bag here. Everything but his really bad (I think British?) is good enough and you can distinguish between characters. But Unfortunately his main narrator voice for the story IS the bad British accent... It is low, and he breaths too much air out. Then some words are not pronounced right when he does it because it sounds like he has marbles in his lower mouth. You can tell he isn't used to it as sometimes his inflections change from British to Southern and back to British. All the while wheezing and huffing. I used rather nice headphone to listen to my books and they pick up on all the fine (in this case annoying) details of this accent. This was a total immersion breaker for me. And since the entire book is read with this I cannot give the narration more than a 2. There were times where I needed to just turn the book off and take a break as I could no longer tolerate it. I ended up using ear buds and turning off the base as much as possible just to finish the book. If he had just not given the main narration any accent it would have been a 4 but he dropped the ball on this one.
