Publisher's Summary

The unflappable Stone Barrington comes face to face with two men whose lives are wrapped in shadows and lies - and who both still feel the sting of betrayal they can never forget.

Between a Rock and a Hard Place

Hired by an odd client previously unknown to him, Stone arrives in London on a mission he thinks he understands but doesn't. Soon he finds himself not only out of his territory but out of his depth as well. Baffled as he is by the behavior of both his quarry and his client, Stone's life is further complicated by two, possibly three murders and the affectionate attentions of two former lovers. When the intelligence services of three countries become involved, he can only hang on for a wild ride and hope for a not-too-bumpy landing.

An easy to listen to book

found myself enthralled yet again with the exploits of Stone Barrington and Dino Bachetti his old partner in NYPD.

Great story with an ending.

Great story from start to finish with a good pace. The book had a solid conclusion and wasn't an obvious pre-quel to the next. That was appreciated. The immaturity of the relationship between Stone and Arrington remains grating (both ways) as well as Stone's naīvete with the femme fatale he continues to associate. At this point in the series, at least 50% of his lovers have been a murderess. Not sure how he could have ever been a successful homicide detective, but that's what Dino is for. Thanks!

Best of the Series so far

Although I missed Dino in the first half, I think this one was the most entertaining so far. I do wish Stone wash't such a complete knucklehead. Here, take my money. Sheesh. I"m sure this will all come around in the future and work itself out. This is my second go at the entire series and I have't read these early ones since they first came out. Am really enjoying them again.

Boring

Had a very tough time paying attention to this one. First book in the series I felt like that. Tough listening to Dino's voice sometimes as well.

Reminds me of why I started this series.

This book was newly released, so I bought it eventhough I didnt recall if I had heard it. I had not. Its the introduction of Carpenter and surprisingly Lance Cabott. Cool to go back when he was still "struggling". Drivng his own car., cooking his own breakfast, only $350K in the bank and flying commercial :-) Also forgot how graphic the sex was in the early books ... kinda like back when I was thrity :-) Good story, good twists at the end. Classic Stone Barringtion. I might get another old one.

Awesome

Another Stone Barrington classic. Takes place in England and builds up a reason why Stone loves the British.

One of Woods better story plots for Stone Barrington. The reader was very good. Look forward to more of Woods books.
