Publisher's Summary

After uncovering a devastating secret, Casey McKay left her beloved hometown and pretended not to look back. For years, the truth her sisters hid from her has kept her away. Now, in desperate need of Casey's help, her sisters have hired a PI to find her.

As a private investigator, Ryan Keller is used to getting into sticky situations, but nothing could have prepared him for the likes of Ms. McKay. Unable to resist her appeal for help, Ryan returns with her to Blue Creek. Little do they know they are walking right into a deadly plot to destroy the McKay sisters.

The closer they get to the truth, the harder it is for them to resist temptation. But succumbing to their desires puts Ryan in the crosshairs of a vengeful foe. To save them, Casey must face her past and the secrets that have shaped her.

Great suspense and romance story!

Excellent read, in depth character description and easy to follow the story line. I look forward to reading other's by W.L. Brooks! This book has an extra little twist toward the end that leaves things open and while I didn't see the need for it, other than to set things up for another book, it was interesting to ponder. There were things I liked keep me interested.

I like the story!

I really loved the story. There is a lot of dialogue some that is necessary and some, not so much. While the suspense side of this one moves at a slower pace than I prefer, the romance between Ryan and Casey happens rather quickly. They seem to go from zero to all over each other in a blink. Once things start to come together and the villain is revealed, it does make sense. The bad guy is crazy, no doubt, but their reasons do have a twisted logic to them. I personally recommend this to those who loves suspense stories.

Great audiobook

Great Audio book!. The Secrets that Shape Us has the potential to be a gripping story of suspense as the McKay sisters search for clues about who is out to get them. With a little more on that, this could've been an edge of your seat suspense. We even get the occasional creepy paragraph or two from the viewpoint of the villain.

I really enjoyed this

I really enjoyed this, at first I thought I might not, but it took a wonderfully sweet turn fairly early on and it had me wrapped from then on. This story has the qualities I like on a romance story: a sweet romance with hot scenes, a well developed, believable story with mystery and excitement. This story was unexpected and enjoyable. I could not stop listening! In fact, I listened straight thru and couldn't sleep until it was finished. Looking forward to more of these stories.

Great narration.

The romance was a little rushed, I felt the author was working with a limit on story length and wish it could have played out a bit. The mystery was well done for this genre, not dwelling on dark detail or too gritty, but adding tension. Great narration.

Start with this one as you will want to read more

I started listening to this audiobook as a referral from a friend. This book is very gripping, and one of the best that I have ever read. I really hope that W.L Brooks keeps adding more stories like this. She has a unique way with words that reel you in, make you want more, but entertains you at the same time. Start with this one as you will want to read more and more too.

It is hard to describe my feelings

I felt the strands of the story and characters were too broad and seemingly unrelated at times. It is hard to describe my feelings and thoughts about this book, while I thought the book was brilliant in prose and plot. This book introduces to us a cast of questionable characters who are neither good or bad but certainly not evil.

The author's writing is precise and sharp!

The author's writing is precise and sharp just like fresh sharpened steak knife. Her way with words and language is divine. She has the perfect amount of dialogue and prose mixed together to keep the listeners engage and falling in love with the prose. This story book is one that will leave you wanting for more!

It's an excellent book!

It's an excellent book. The writing is wonderful. The characters are mostly likable. I'm more than happy that I found W.L Brooks. Somehow she managed to become one of my favorites. I'm certain I will continue exploring her work and I hope that the tiny aftertaste I managed before will dissolve or I get used to it. I recommend this one to anyone, and I also have to state that this is even better.

Characters in this book were wonderful

Isn’t a sign of a good book when you get done reading it and you just can’t wait to start the next one . Unfortunately, I don’t know if there is going to be another one. I really hope so because the characters in this book were wonderful. Some of them you loved. Some of them you hated. Some of them you didn’t quite know how to feel.

Excellent writing with interesting characters

Excellent writing with interesting character development, this book series was worth the read. The ending felt a bit rushed but was conclusive. This novel met all expectations. This book was also a roller coaster ride. I feel like I still want to know more. I hope it continues.

I don't like long reviews of books.

I don't like long reviews of books as they give up plot details and, I don't know, I just hate spoilers maybe because it can't feel me the excitement in reading every scene. This was a long awaited for me and she delivered. A little busy with characters but the whole was fantastic.
