Resumen del Editor

A widower with four adopted daughters, Emmit McKay likes to keep a handle on things. But nothing can prepare the former FBI sharpshooter for the battles coming to his small hometown, especially the one which arrives in such a tempting package.

Savannah Walker moves to Blue Creek to take over as principal of the school Emmit’s daughters attend. With a masters’ degree in education and a no-nonsense attitude, she is caught off guard by the behavior of the McKay girls and never expects to fall in love with them - or in lust with their father. But her intimacy with the family stirs up rumors and unearths secrets.

Savannah and Emmit cannot deny the chemistry which draws them together, but the closer they get, the more dangerous the stakes become.

When a murderer is hidden amongst you, you can’t let the dead lie.

A Must Listen!

It is difficult to surprise me in guessing a "who done it" kind of book, but W.L. Brooks did just that with Let the Dead Lie! I was listening to the amazing narrator on audible, and only put the book down in order to work and sleep! If I didn't have to do either of those things, I would have finished this book in less than 24 hours, because it's an "up all night pager turner" kind of read/listen!

Emmit McKay likes to keep things in order after becoming a widower with four adopted daughters who give him a run for his money with their orneriness. Not even this former FBI sharpshooter can prepare for what's coming to his small town. Especially when it comes to Savannah Walker.

Miss Walker is the new principal at the McKay girls' school, but not even her master's degree and ability to handle anything thrown at her would have her prepared for falling in love with the daughters of the handsome hardware store owner. However, the closer they become, the more dangerous the stakes become when a murderer is hiding amongst them putting everyone in danger.

When I say Brooks wrote this on a Nora Roberts level of writing, it's no lie! This was such a well-written story, but is highly underrated. It will hook you within the first couple of chapters, and fall in love with the McKay daughters just as much as Savannah does! Fletcher is my personal favorite, but it's impossible not to love them all. You won't see what's coming when it comes to the reveal of the murderer. If you want an epic read, then this series is definitely a Must Have! Run and get it today!

Heart and Soul

Let the Dead Lie is an awesome book by W. L. Brooks that captivated me. The girls in this story are strong and resourceful. There are unexpected twists, caring, friendships, love, heartache and so much more. The mystery in this book was perfect balance to the developing love story. The narration by Susan Marlowe was perfect. She brought the characters to life with her distinguishable voices for them. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review, I will most definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator. This book is part of a series and a standalone listen. I loved it!

An Intriguing Mystery

An entertaining story that will leave you thoughtful. It’s got mystery, romance, AND four slightly unruly children who will win your hearts. It has the feel of an earlier time with the children as well as the attitudes of some of the other students and parents. The narrator, Susan Marlowe, does a wonderful job with the many voices, both adult and child! I’m looking forward to learning where the series leads. Will it be among the children or former FBI agent father, Emmitt?

Agood read

"I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review."

Over all this was a good read. At first the four children drove me nuts, but they grew on me and by the middle of the book I started to enjoy their antics. The romance plot was predictable so just okay. I give this book four stars.

Interesting Western Style

It appears to be set in a classic olden day tale style, yet has modern day folksy happenings. The talk and lingo, a bit too hillbilly for Montana but a cute story. Setting should be more in West Virginia somewhere, not Montana. But it is a cute story. The little orphan Annie girls and the ex-FBI daddy work a low key general store in town. Story has a few good bylines woven in. This would make a great real life tale of a Little House on the Prairie neighbor, time period and style of writing.

Suspenseful family drama

Emmit is a widower with four adopted daughters. When Savannah moves into town, she is drawn to the girls and their hunky father. The family has their usual family drama, but there are threats to their lives putting them all in danger.

This was a lovely romantic thriller. I love the family dynamics in the story and the suspense brought through in the story. The story was paced well and aroused my interest throughout. I found myself getting quite attached to the family and the author was good at evoking emotions. Susan narrated well with great intonation for the different characters. At times I really thought there were different narrators narrating for the different family members.

I recommend this book and look forward to the next in the series, The Secrets That Shape Us!
