Sometimes second chances happen in the places we’ve left behind in this heartwarming beach read from the acclaimed author of the “absolute treasure of a novel” (Kristy Woodson Harvey, New York Times bestselling author) The Darlings.

After her publishing career and engagement fell apart in Boston, Leah Powell has no choice but to return to her hometown. Feeling lost and discouraged, she stumbles upon a once prominent sea captain’s historic home that now looks as dilapidated as she feels. Suddenly inspired, Leah decides to transform it into a bookstore and café she will call The Sandy Page.

Luke Nickerson, a life-long local and contractor, remembers Leah, even if she doesn’t remember him. Intrigued by her return and her project, he agrees to help her bring the old captain’s house back to life. As they work together, The Sandy Page slowly becomes the town’s go-to gathering spot for locals, tourists, and anyone who is feeling adrift during this long, sweet summer. It’s a home for second chances. But will it be enough for Leah and Luke?

Enjoyed the story. Narration very good. Sweet tender story that evoked a few tears but also brought smiles.

For the cozy palate cleansing read that I was craving, I am giving this 5 stars. It’s just what I needed. The only problem I had with the narrator is she would sometimes say the last word of some sentences so quiet, you couldn’t hear it.

Perfect Cozy Read

I knew when hearing the opening lines of the novel's preview that I was going to love this listen, that it was going to wrap me in a warm blanket of nostalgia, when the primary character Leah is crossing the Sagamore Bridge to Cape Cod, something I've done with my husband a number of times since Cape Cod is where he grew up during the summers of his childhood. When I met him in college, he woukd resale me with stories of the Bridge, the beaches, Chatham, the Lighthouse, the, saltwater raffle, the quaint shops and "summer people." Most of the places mentioned in the novel are real, and it was so fun for me to relax into that familiarity, while also enjoying each of the storylines unfolding. Chatham really is a lovely place in Massachusetts; it a highlight for me to spend time there when we go to visit my husband's family. The Squire truly is a very popular place, so good luck getting in!
After reading a rather strange book with toxic characters prior to this one, I needed a palate cleanser, and this fit the bill perfectly. Enjoy!

"Going home" to where my husband proposed

This book was so easy to like. I was immediately drawn to the characters and their lives on the Nantucket Shore. (Lea is living the life I’ve always dreamed of — living on Nantucket and running a small bookstore). My idea of HEAVEN — if only money weren’t an obstacle…

I loved Eudora’s story — her fight against panic attacks, venturing out into the world again, making a few good friends, and giving knitting classes in the back room of the bookstore. She is inspiring.

I liked the character of Brad, the young gay man Lea hired for the summer and his dealing with his family over his lifestyle.

Lucy, a young girl hired to work part time at the bookstore and learning to deal with the pain of her sister’s car accident and subsequent stay in a rehab facility, is an integral part of the story. This part of the book was excellent.

Luke and Lea…it took them a while to get things together, but they do in the end (the ending was predictable, but satisfying). I want a “Luke” in my life!

The main characters start as strangers at the beginning of the book, each wrestling with their own problems, but by the end of the story, they are not only friends, but family.

I did not especially enjoy the narrator as she has an odd cadence, dropping her voice at the end of each sentence, often making it hard to hear what she was saying.

I will definitely be looking for other books by this author (and will be listening to this book again).

EASY BOOK TO FALL INTO — VERY ENJOYABLE!
