Beautiful, poignant, and I couldn't put it down.

This novel was a beautifully written escape into another time. Though heartbreaking, it was like the entire book was poetry.

The only reason I didn't give a narration a perfect score is because these German characters had a British accent. I love a British accent, so it was not difficult to listen to at all. But, could've had a tad more authenticity. Sometimes the narrating is reason to not to listen to a book, but this is not one of those times.

Captured

This is one of those books that when it ends, it feels very personal. It truly captivates you and takes you back in time and you become a part of the lives of the people in the story. When it ends, there's a sadness, but yet a happiness that you made the trip. This is the first time I've read this author and I will definitely be checking out other books she has written.

Twists and Turns

I LOVE the family connections within the story that wove the plot together in an intriguing way. The twists and turns within the story were so captivating that I would often get up in the middle of the night to either reread a chapter or read the next chapter to see what would happen next.
Such a wonderful book!

A little twist on WW2

It took a bit to get past the narrator pronouncing “assume” as “ashume” but didn’t ruin the entire story. Predictable storyline.

Two young women who beat the odds

Did not like the hidden cruelty of the male character and the fact that she was so unaware

A bit tired of the two time period ploy. However, the story of the earlier time period is surely riveting

A dual timeliness done very well. Lots of twists and turns. Tears, fear, love, courage, forgiveness. Reunification. Beautiful.

Amazing story

A bit of a slow start but once it got going I was mesmerized and anxious to follow each character. I would have liked more of an ending and description for Lily’s’ character. The narrator did a fine job but could have used more of a German accent when speaking about the various German characters. Each person in the narrator’s voice sounded very similar. Over all I enjoyed this story very much. Would definitely recommend.

A different story.

Different wwii book about the sting woman. I loved the story about the hotel. Strong story lines.

Remarkable epic of the effect of the holocaust through several generations

I really enjoyed the believable characters and their resilience and persistence, over decades struggling with post-war life.
