Honestly, I don't know what to think...

A couple of the stories were okay. But most were confusing to me. I listened to the whole thing but I just don't get it. Most ended seemingly in the middle of the story.

Love Ruth Randell

Ruth Randell is one of my favorite writers. However, I don’t think I will ever get another dramatized book. I had the hardest time trying to figure out what was happening in most of these stories.

Nobody gets out alive. Classic Rendell.

Settle back and enjoy vintage Rendell. A great collection from Ruth with all the aspects we have come to love. Tight, claustrophobic stories that leave none of the characters unscathed. These shortened versions are perfect to reacquaint yourself with her earlier work.

Creepy tales of murder, revenge, jealousy, and the unexpected...

Recommended for all fans of Tales of the Unexpected (at least one of these Rendell stories was also dramatised for that TV series). Deeply creepy and unsettling stories, mixing crime with a sense of the supernatural. All beautifully performed; though my least favourite was King Solomon’s Carpet. Fast-forward through that, and this is a great collection.

Deadly sting in the tail

Very enjoyable. I like to listen to short stories as they act like a sleeping pill and send me to sleep. A 30 minute story can tale me a week to get to the end. This collection had the opposite effect. The endings could go anywhere. Even when you know you can't ever be sure....

Awful

These stories were dreadful. Neither thrilling or even interesting I was bored to tears. The female characters were all simpering fools I found myself hoping they would be murdered in some terrible way but alas nothing happened, quite literally in a couple of the stories. How these books/short stories were published originally is beyond me. Not even worth the one star I had to give to rate it. Woeful.

Could have been a whole lot better.

Decent stories let down by rather uninspiring production and (in some cases) some pretty ‘naff’ acting. Could have been a whole lot better.

Not the best of Ruth Rendell

These stories were boring and trivial, which was rather unexpected to avid readers of her works. But Ruth Rendell's usual style and wit were missing. If these stories were supposedly a take on modern life, they came across as depressing, not entertaining, with characters lacking credibility. We listened to two of them and skimmed the rest in a vain hope for something better. Ah well, back to our library of real books to catch up with Chief Inspector Wexford and some more serious plots.
