Publisher's Summary

1815 - Along the wild and untamed coast of Cornwall, smuggling is not only a way of life but a means of survival.

Henrietta Morton knows well to look the other way when the free trading 'gentlemen' are at work. Yet when a notorious pirate, known as The Rogue, bursts in on her in the village shop, she takes things one step further.

Bewitched by a pair of wicked blue eyes, in a moment of insanity she hides the handsome fugitive from the local Militia. Her reward is a kiss that she just cannot forget. But in his haste to escape with his life, her pirate drops a letter, inadvertently giving Henri incriminating information about the man she just helped free.

When her father gives her hand in marriage to a wealthy and villainous nobleman in return for the payment of his debts, Henri becomes desperate.

Blackmailing a pirate may be her only hope for freedom.

Note: This audiobook (and series) contains mild swearing and some mildly graphic and descriptive sex scenes.

Loved this story..

I was afraid I wasn’t going to like this book, but I ended up enjoying it. I was skeptical about liking Henri (Henrietta, a horrible name for a heroine so I’m glad she was called Henri) but I liked her in the end. However, I didn’t like her as much as I liked the Rogue, Lawrence. He was always so happy, and his eyes were always sparkling with mischief, and I like that kind of MC.

Anyway, Henri was engaged to someone she couldn’t stand and went looking for help from a pirate. Needless to say, that didn’t turn out well because the Militia suddenly showed up and Henri and Lawrence (Lars to his crew) took off out the back and ended up on his ship and sailing away, much to her chagrin. And the story got much better after that.

At first, I didn’t like Alex, but he sure turned out to be different that what we were led to believe. I liked Mousy and Annie, too.

There was explicit sex in this but no swearing to speak of.

As to the narration: Philip Battley was simply wonderful. Yeah, he can use a little practice on the women’s voices, but Lawrence’s voice was just awesome, it made the whole book more enjoyable. And his emotions when he read were perfect.

Worth a credit.

H and H are both fun and charming and the heroine is spunky. Very satisfying listen and I like the narrator. I’m going for the next one.

BOOKS 1-10

**Review's for books 1-10**
Narrator did a very good job giving life to all character's and distinguishing them.

Book 1- Very good story kept me riveted and engaged from start to finish and looking forward to more.
Book 2- Same as the first.
Book 3- Really loved this tale over the 1st and 2nd.
Book 4- So far this one is my most favorite amongst the 10 I've read. I absolutely adored Beau and Millie.
Book 5- This is where thing's start going south for me. I just loved Aubrey in the previous books but he was too young and submissive for my taste in this one. The whole story lacked EVERYTHING it's previous stories did. I also didn't like Violette.
Book 6- Was a chore and found Edward and Belle a bit boring and more wanting to know more about Clercy instead.
Book 7- Here's where I really get upset! Half or more of this book I had already read in book 6!! This is a huge pet peeve of mine when author's do this because we're not getting a FULL fresh book at all but still paying for something we've already bought!! UGH!! This story was beyond ridiculous also and I truly hated it. It left me mad and upset.  Gabriel was such a weak "hero" that I laugh at even thinking him to be considered one. He's actually the opposite of a hero. Clercy was portrayed too perfect and accepting, which I was expecting to see more, even a damn ghost or two but NADA!! Although I appreciated her blunt approach, she's just far too young and inexperienced to be so "perfect " which made this entire story just too far fetched and unbelievable.
Book 8- Again, another submissive Male which is a turn off and a female that's unremarkable. Predictable tale with nothing new.
Book 9- I enjoyed this one and hoped that the author found her lost mojo of bringing back the joy I found in the first few of the series.
Book 10- I was wrong because this was yet again a huge disappointment. I will stop here and save my money and time on finding another author.

Not that great

The heroin was doing the most. First she tried to blackmail the hero. Then she called him a son of a bitch. She even scratched him with her nails on the face or neck and kicked him between the legs when he tried to kiss her. She got extremely angry with him when he told her no to sex, so she threw things at him. She was angry with him for killing someone who tried to kill him. I listened to this book on audible and I fell asleep. It was a little daunting.

Great Story but Narrator... Not so much

I really enjoyed the story and characters despite the writing style being somewhat generic. Usually a great narrator can make up for that. However, it wasn’t a performance so much as just being read to with pauses in odd places etc. It made for lack of flow and didn’t feel so escaped so much into the story as I’d like. I’ll still give it another try to see how the story develops in future novels with hopes of improvement.

she knows him less than an hour and loves him?

The plot with the 2 brothers is not a bad idea, just the love-thing does not work for me. Sorry!

Loved it!!!

First book I have listen to by this author. I love it when I find a new author to listen to! I enjoyed this so much will definitely get the follow on book.
It's about smugglers, a girl trying to escape a arranged marriage and the adventures she gets in. The narrator has a lovely voice and I highly recommend this book.

Predictable

Eventually the narrator really irritated me. I kept hoping for something else. Disappointed. A bit gratuitous. I won’t be listening to any others in this group.

DNF

I started my reading purely with historical romances...cut my teeth on Rosemary Rogers, Kathleen Woodiwiss, Rebecca Brandewyne ....
although the narrator is brilliant and the writing well within the historical confines...the plotline started to wane. right in the middle. no spoilers and I can't say where it ended as i returned the book.
good writing, great delivery but plotline..hmmmmm
