Publisher's summary

I always knew I was different.

From a young age, my mind has been plagued with things only I could see. Never knowing if these visions were real or just hallucinations, I learned how to lock them down and ignore them. I learned to take solace in the relative anonymity of city life and find peace in the rainy days my city of Seattle is known for.

But just when I think my life is getting on track and my dreams are achievable, a moment of weakness causes me to learn a hard and fast lesson.

My entire existence has been a lie.

Now I'm faced with a new reality that's as implausible as it is fantastical. Filled with realms and veils, light and dark, fae and daemons, gods and angels-things I don't understand but am forced to acknowledge. It doesn't help that the man teaching me about my unique gifts is the gorgeously handsome Carrick Byrne, one of Seattle's richest and most powerful men. He intimidates, annoys, and intrigues me all at the same time. I don't trust him and yet there's no one else to help me.

No longer certain who to put my faith in, what to believe, or how I fit into it all, one revelation is clear . . .

The world as I know it will never be the same again.

Great start to a new series!

I adore Sawyer Bennett, and I have been super excited to read a fantasy series of hers! I really like Finley and enjoyed learning about this world with her. The world is urban fantasy and isn't overly complicated, which I enjoy. There is a bit of mystery surrounding Finley and what her powers mean. Enter Carrick, broody powerful man full of mystery. He holds his cards very close to his chest, which not surprisingly doesn't make Finley all that happy. I enjoyed their mentor type relationship and can see how their relationship could evolve. There is a particular plot twist that really makes me need to jump into book 2. Overall , I very much enjoyed the start of this new series!

Interesting concept

I’m gonna let everyone know the ending is very abrupt and leaves off on a cliffhanger. So if you like what you read, definitely dive into the second book in the series. I wasn’t that thrilled with the narrator though.

Loving this!!

It’s been so long since I’ve read or listened to a fantasy romance series and I am SO excited to see where this story is going. I’m loving it.

Definitely a slow build/slow burn but I’m invested in Finley’s story.

Lucy as Finley is absolutely perfect. She does a great job with all of the different voices, both female and male. THE TALENT!! Aiden only narrates a few chapters but I am completely okay with that. His chapters are also 3rd person POV which I thought was an interesting choice, but it didn’t take away from or pull me out of the story in any way.

I’m so glad we don’t have to wait very long for the next book.
