Publisher's summary

The Foxes are a fractured mess, but their latest disaster might be the miracle they've always needed to come together as a team. The one person standing in their way is Andrew, and the only one who can break through his personal barriers is Neil.

Except Andrew doesn't give up anything for free, and Neil is terrible at trusting anyone but himself. The two don't have much time to come to terms with their situation before outside forces start tearing them apart. Riko is intent on destroying Neil's fragile new life, and the Foxes have just become collateral damage.

Neil's days are numbered, but he's learning the hard way to go down fighting for what he believes in, and Neil believes in Andrew even if Andrew won't believe in himself.

Heads up

i really enjoyed this story but i don't see any of the reviews give trigger warnings so I'll do the honors. Beware of graphic depictions of rape, abuse and torture.

Not what I was expecting

First let me start off by saying, if you’re looking for romance, don’t bother reading this book. I wish someone mentioned the SA that nearly takes place in this book. The self harm mentioned in here didn’t really surprise me, seeing as most of the cast of characters are misfits for whatever reason.

This book made me feel uncomfortable, which suck cause I enjoyed the sports part of it, the mafia aspect wasn’t that great, and I feel like there isn’t really a full plot amongst the first and second book.

This book disappointed me so much, and made me uncomfortable to the point I refuse to read the last book.

Please, if you’re looking for “romance “ or something fun, this book isn’t it

I love this series too much

This is my second favorite book series of all time. I've listed to each book four times and I don't regret a minute. It has a lot of angst and the romance is very slow which I typically hate. It just feels right.

One of my Favorites

I've re-read this series more times than I can count. I'm obsessed with the characters and the desperate hope that clings to each page. The hope for healing. The hope for a found family. Even through the darkest of battles and trauma.

Sexual assault trigger warning

Occurs halfway through chapter 11 so this is that TW. Took me some time to come down from my own panic attack from it so please be weary. There’s no warning in either audible or the e-book so I didn’t know it was there. <3 Still a good series though.

Listening...

Listening to this on audio reminded me of how much I enjoy these stories.
This one was so good.
Chaos always seems to happen around Neil.

Remarkably disturbing. Too many spoilers.

Again, a book I can't stop listening to. This has so many elements that make me cringe, still with the characters I don't like, ones I would back out of a room to avoid turning my back on. Still, I didn't want to stop listening to the story. Not even when the MC ended up tortured by more characters I strongly disliked. They were terrible. Oh, and then another character goes through SA, a character that was supposed to be very strong and impossible to sneak up on.

Why am I moving on to volume #3?

Good Story

A lot of ups and downs twist and turns but good Story. Great 2nd book cannot Waite to listen to the third. Was very sad story to find out what Andrew went through but answered a lot of questions. I love Neil and Andrew's thing they got. right now it's a little Love and a lot of Hate but we know better..

Book 2 of 3

reread 09/04/2022 Raising the rating on this one too. Most of my original review stands true. I dunno how to get this series out my head and I really don't wanna. Leave me to my problematic children.

TRIGGER WARNINGS IN THIS BOOK; everything. (Abuse, rape, self harm, assault, blood, murder, use of the "R" word) I didn't like The Foxhole Court at all. In fact I was close to DNF-ing it. And for a time I was feeling this was going to be the same. But I actually enjoyed it way more than the first book.

Some parts of this book were brutal. I actually felt sorry for Andrew, who hitherto been an actual malfunctioning sociopath. You even feel bad for Kevin Day and possibly find out why he went to the Foxhole Court in the first place.

I feel like the third book could go one of two ways. But I'll try to read it anyway to see which it is.

Interesting

I enjoyed this book. The whole revelation with Andrew just broke my heart. I really like how the story feel like it was progressing naturally. The only thing that I would say was a downside was the lack of time spent on Neil's experience with the Ravens but I suppose that'll be explored in the next book. Overall, enjoyable listen.

I wish I skipped this book

There should be a trigger warning. I was not ready for the rape scene neither all the abuse. There was also still no romance. and the story still felt uneventful although so much happened.
And for some reason it was so so so repetitive. Especially in the first chapters. I haven't felt so silly since reading picture books. They re introduced all the characters constantly and it felt like this was a stand alone book instead the second part of a trilogy. Like If the first book did not matter at all.
In my opinion this book should not exist. This whole trilogy could be just a single book. It feels so episodic and so much like a sick fanfiction.
I finished within a day.
Up until the rape scene the book was fine. After that it because too overwhelming. I wish I'd never read it. I'm so sure that the next one will recup everything that happened in the previous ones anyway. like the writer does not trust their readers to remember.
I feel sick to my stomach.
Do not read this unless you are over 18.
Too much drama for no reason. So sick.
The performance and writing somewhat improved though. But it was unforgivably repetitive.

Holding out hope for the final book...

The Raven King is book two in the All for the Game series. The Foxhole Court is book one in the All for the Game series. An MM sports read with a hint of suspense.

I still stand by my thoughts in my review for The Foxhole Court, this series really is missing key information. I'm all for slow burn, when done right it's perfection. But this feels messy and choppy.
This series saving grace is Alexander Cendese narration. Because I know for a fact there is no way I would actually read this on kindle or physical.

With that said it did improve in the second half of this book. I actually felt I was interested in what was to come and the outcome of what happens. But again we've somehow sped ahead of time and missed blocks again. Which I hope some kind of information is provided for. This is the suspense/plot equivalent of when it fades to black in a sex scene.

Holding out hope for book three to redeem this series for me...

great series

I read the All For The Game series first before I one clicked all the audible versions to listen to as well. I've really enjoyed listening to this narrator in some of his other work, which is mainly why I ended up one-clicking this series to listen to as well. He does a great job with the story, I really enjoyed listening to him across books 1 & 2. However - some of the voices for all the different characters did start to sound really similar, confusing me a few times as to which character I was listening to in that particular moment. Other than that I loved it.

Amazing story, ok voice

As a great fan of this series, I was so excited to see the first two on audible! The story always hits me right in the gut- it’s raw and powerful, dark and driving. It tells stories that people would often rather not hear.
In terms of the voice actor, he has a beautifully crisp voice, however a lot of the characters sound the same. I found it very difficult to differentiate between them, even though I know the words from reading them on the page. He also voiced them like surfer dudes, which feels off but perhaps that’s an agreed upon style? So that critique is more a personal preference.
Overall, I listened to these books in long sittings, and kept coming back regardless of the narrator. I’m excited for the final one!
