Publisher's summary

With her oldest son taking a gap year in Europe, her aging father losing his sight and his memory, and her husband of 20 years announcing that he's leaving her, Abbie Bartholomew Jowett is surrounded by overwhelming loss.

Desperate to mend her marriage and herself, she follows her son, Bobby, to walk the famed Camino pilgrimage. During their journey they encounter Rasa, an Iranian woman working in secret helping other refugees, and Caroline, a journalist who is studying pilgrims on the Camino while searching for answers from her broken past.

Each individual has her own reasons for the pilgrimage, but together they learn that the Camino strips you bare and calls you into deep soul-searching that can threaten all your best-laid plans.

Convicting story and strong characters

This final book in the trilogy was a very good story about examining your tendency to want to always be in control of circumstances and others. I saw myself in the main character’s flaws, struggles and challenging attempts to improve her long held habits. The other characters in her family are also strong and well developed.

An Inspiring Journey x3

In The Promised Land, Elizabeth Musser bring three very different characters with different life experiences, dreams, and struggles together on the Camino pilgrimage. All while she brings her reader along to experience the challenges, joys, beauty, food, and friendship of this 90-mile walk.

Of all the characters, I probably connected with Abbie most in this story but enjoyed getting Bobby’s and Caroline’s perspectives as well. The plot really picked up and drew me in once Caroline and Abbie meet up on the trail (although the setup to get there was a must to enhance the story).

I also appreciated that each character had a separate narrator to keep each voice distinct throughout the audiobook.

If you’ve ever completed an endurance race, you will understand how the fatigue strips you down until you can’t hide your emotions. And if you haven’t, The Promised Land allows you to experience the pain, effort, and triumph at reaching the finish.

Loved this book.

An honest and redemptive story. So rare these days to read something so meaningful. Her journey may not be your own, but still you learn. Thank you to the author and narrators for a very pleasant time spent enjoying this book.

Beautiful Story

I originally read this as a member of the launch book and loved the story so much so that I wanted to listen to it on audio. I enjoyed most of the audio book. Both of the female narrators did an excellent job, but the male narrator was not good at all. He didn't seem to be a part of the story but just read it in a bland tone. He did not try to distinguish between the different characters in the story the way the female characters did. Thus, I gave it only three stars for the performance. That being said, this is a wonderful story that I highly suggest whether it be on audio book or the written book. Elizabeth Musser is one of my favorite authors.

Book 3 in series

I didn't realize, but this book belongs in the series starting with "The Swan House", then "The Dwelling Place". This is such an awesome series so I'm glad I found this one also! It's a great story of three people finding themselves and coming to or getting closer to Jesus. Another Wonderful story!

Too many characters

-Too many characters
-The teenagers voice was distracting and not in a good way
-Predictable storyline for the mother
-Plot was kind of all over the place
