At age 50, Pippa Lee is the devoted wife of a brilliant and successful older publisher, the proud mother of successful twins, and an adored friend and neighbor. She and her husband have recently cast off Gramercy Park for Marigold Village in mature anticipation of oncoming old age and a serene new chapter of life.

But under the surface, Pippa's past - a past of surprising grit, deceit, and betrayal - has begun to seep in and invade her present. In her reckless youth, she had an affair with a teacher, ran away from home, got heavily involved with drugs, and was set adrift in the wilds of New York before managing to find love and create a family of her own.

With quirky humor and intelligence, Rebecca Miller unfurls a life story of continuous revelations in this wise and acute portrait of the many lives behind a single name.

I enjoyed both the story and the narration. The characters were well-developed and believable, and the story had enough plot twists to keep it from being completely predictable. I'm about the same age as Pippa and could definitely identify with her in many ways.
