Publisher's Summary

Random House presents the audiobook edition of The Passengers by John Marrs.

Eight self-drive cars set on a collision course. Who lives, who dies? You decide.

The new gripping thriller from the best-selling author of The One - soon to be a major Netflix series.

When someone hacks into the systems of eight self-drive cars, their passengers are set on a fatal collision course.

The passengers are: a TV star, a pregnant young woman, a disabled war hero, an abused wife fleeing her husband, an illegal immigrant, a husband and wife - and parents of two - who are travelling in separate vehicles and a suicidal man. Now the public have to judge who should survive, but are the passengers all that they first seem?

Intriguing book

Intriguing book and it continues to intrigue all the way through.
I struggled initially as I didn't like any of the characters and by the end of the book I still didn't like them but i didn't feel bored at any point.

Brilliant book!!

Brilliantly written and so current. In the age of artificial intelligence and technology, this is truly terrifying and scarily believable! I for one am never getting into a fully automated vehicle!!
John Marrs is an amazing story teller and makes you engage emotionally with all the characters ! 5 stars!!! You must listen to

Amazing

I loved it. Full of unexpected action and a rollercoaster of emotions. The characters and situation are scarily believable. Not a dull moment; the second you think you know what's going on the second it changes.

Another gripping story

This was another great story from John Marrs. Just the right balance of plausibility and fantasy with a real underlying prophesy of where we are heading as a society. My only gripe is with the performance. Not that it was badly acted but using the same bunch of actors as in The One was slightly confusing as well as taking away from the originality in this book. the multiple voice thing was not necessary in this one and just spoilt it ever so slightly.

Overall a great listen full of twists and turns from start to finish. Let's hope this isn't the future.

Buckle Yourself in for a Bumpy Ride!

Set in a not-too-distant-future, Britain is now seeing self-drive cars on our roads every day, they are the saviour of our highways, as they help the environment, as well as cutting down traffic jams, they can see possible problems ahead, so will take alternative routes.

You can just get in the car, and relax, maybe sit and read the daily paper, maybe finish putting on your make-up, or because the windows turn opaque and let you play videos, you can sit and scroll through Facebook and Twitter on the way to work...Sounds great right?

And it is, everyone has embraced the future, except some, some people really don't like these cars at all!

Libby is one of these people, she is called for jury duty, but not for what you think, these juries consist of just one member of the public, and they are held in secret to discuss accidents involving Driverless cars, and also to determine who (or what) is at fault.

Headed by the obnoxious MP Jack, the trial is in full swing when the hacker joins the conversation, and he makes it clear very quickly who is in charge!

You see, it turns out that the cars that "could never be hacked" actually could be, and the hacker will show you what happens when you do not pay attention.

A live fed has been set up on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram showing the courtroom and all of the Jurors, it also shows the random 8 people that are now stuck in their cars and are all driving to the same location, the exact location, meaning that they will all crash...but the hacker will allow one person to live, who decides that....Oh...it's you!!

A wonderful read with a scary look into our near future.

What a crazy book!

I was really unsure if I would like this book, but it's captivating!!
I won't spoil the story line, but would highly recommend this one! Twists, turns, nail biting suspense and a growing sense of horror. Think Animal Farm, 1984, combined with a society that is tech savvy, needy and narcissistic. Narration Perfect.

Wow that was some ride

I’m glad I continued listening to this book. It was an uncomfortable read at some points.

It certainly has me reflecting on how our information is used and how we use social media. It also reminded me not to judge a person without listening to the whole story

A brilliant story read really well.

A little predictable

Enjoyable overall, I liked the in depth knowledge and foresight of how our roads will be in the future. The plot seemed to be a little predictable and I didn’t catch myself being surprised at the twists.
