Publisher's Summary

A gripping thriller about a man’s quest for the daughter no one else believes is still alive, from the acclaimed author of The Chalk Man and The Hiding Place.

"C. J. Tudor is terrific. I can’t wait to see what she does next." (Harlan Coben, number one New York Times best-selling author)

Q: Why are you called the Other People?

A: We are people just like you. People to whom terrible things have happened. We’ve found solace not in forgiveness or forgetting. But in helping each other find justice.

Driving home one night, stuck behind a rusty old car, Gabe sees a little girl’s face appear in its rear window. She mouths one word: Daddy. It’s his five-year-old daughter, Izzy. He never sees her again.

Three years later, Gabe spends his days and nights traveling up and down the highway, searching for the car that took his daughter, refusing to give up hope, even though most people believe she’s dead.

When the car that he saw escape with his little girl is found abandoned with a body inside, Gabe must confront not just the day Izzy disappeared but the painful events from his past now dredged to the surface.

Q: What sort of justice?

A: That depends on the individual. But our ethos is a punishment that fits the crime.

Fran and her daughter, Alice, also put in a lot of miles on the road. Not searching. Running. Because Fran knows what really happened to Gabe’s daughter. She knows who is responsible. And she knows what they will do if they ever catch up to her and Alice.

Q: Can I request to have someone killed?

A: If your Request is acceptable, and unless there are exceptional circumstances, we fulfill all Requests.

Bizarre, entertaining thriller

C.J. Tudor specializes in taut thrillers tinged with supernatural effects, and this one has more unlikely twists and turns than the last one I listened to. But as before, Richard Armitage's beautiful baritone and skillful performance make it all worthwhile.

Page Turner for Sure!

Thrilling combination of mystery, crime, and sci fi horror. I'm quickly becoming a C.J. Tudor fan.

Another great book by CJTudor

Interesting premise, well done. All the loose ends were tied up in a way that made sense. Looking forward to her next novel.

Richard Armitage Delivers again!

The British actor, Richard Armitage, delivers another fine performance. His voice travels easily from character to character, and after a while, you forget you are listening to a narrator at all! There is also a female narrator and she does a fine job, but her role is quite small.

I did have a problem with the story, however. The plot was interesting enough, but it took literally hours to get there. All the pain and suffering in the beginning was hard to take. I think it would help to drop an hour or two from the beginning of the story; maybe move it to the end, where everything seems to happen at once.

The story did have a satisfying ending, though.

Confusion of genres

When a plot involves an unlikely secret revenge/murder society it better be coherent and sharp to keep me buying into it, as did Adrian McKinty’s The Chain. Confusing and maudlin throughout, this novel is weighted down by a relentless tone of doom and gloom, and Tudor seems unable to choose a genre: suspense or supernatural? After awhile it became dreary for me. Richard Armitage has a gorgeous, expressive voice. I loved The Chalk Man, and still look forward to more from CJ Tudor.

Favorite CJ Tudor yet

It always takes me a minute to get into her books, but once I do I always finish in less than a day. This book has all the things-psychological thriller, creepy, a touch supernatural, what else do you want?! Loved it ❤️

The story had interesting premises and it did not disappoint. I like that C.J. Tudor answers every clue laid down earlier.

Creepy chilling suspense

Gabe’s wife and daughter were murdered, but he’s sure he saw his daughter alive. Why is this happening; why does nobody believe him? “Anything can be bought. If you want something done though, be willing to pay the price. There’s always a price.” Gabe’s cost was dear.
